#3D glint boards

Thanks for your note – what are you using the dual pentiums for right
now – is there any multi-threaded software that you recommend, and do
you find the duals very fast? I haven't yet equipped our dual 90
with a second chip, waiting only for software – a lot of the
photoshop plugins are not 32-bit yet. I don't know if HOOPS is
anything really – it's what Autodesk uses I thought, or atleast what
ACCURENDER from McNeel uses…I think. Anyway, it sounds like
they're dropping it for OPENGL in R5. Yeah – they have to do
multiprocessing, right?
Actually, I'm not using the dual for anything right now. I just talked
to Murphy this afternoon, and he had just strapped it to the mules
back. He claims it ungodly fast. I think it's faster than even he or
Cameron thought it would be. Cameron did a benchmark test on it
before he shipped it to Murph. He said it came it at 400,000 drystone
(whatEVER that means) compared to a single processor at 220,000. Both
were timed running 10 threads. I don't know of any multi-threaded
software right now. I'm really betting on the future with this
system. I never did think that 3D Studio would be the only animation
program I would own. SOMEbody is going to write for these dual
machines, I'm just waiting to see who it's going to be. From what I
uderstand, there is a 57 Chevy in 3DS that is already rendered. Murph
was telling me some loading times today. About 6 minutes for the 486,
minute and a half for a pentium. On my system…..it's just there
…….poof. I think I should mention that I do have liquid speed and
128 MB RAM on this system. I'm rambling now aren't I?
Anyway, I've been waiting about three weeks for them to finish up with it and
ship it to me. It will be here Friday with all kinds of software goodies to go
with it. Maybe after that, we could set up some kinds of comparison test with
your single 90 and see if it's worth your while to expand.

Absolutlely, trust me I'm psychodelic that way
Terry
Terry,
Sounds good – let me know!!
John
John,
Will do, as soon as I'm up and running. Maybe some of the old hands in here
would have some good ideas for some test we could do.
Terry
John,
I was just thinking about the rendering speed test we had talked about before.
If you want to compare something that we both have, try the "Chevy" mesh. On my
system it came in at three minutes, eighteen seconds (rendering time) and four
minutes, six seconds (for full screen image). I would like to compare an
animation rendering too, if you know of a good one on board.
The chevy was rendered using default 1024 x 768 x 1, with everything down to
"Force two sided" on.
Thanks, Terry
