#ANS Problem
12 messages in this thread
I went into the scriptor option in ANS and put together a couple of flic file
to run after each other, as soon as the first flic starts my machine freezes
up. I was following the instructions out of the manual – why is this
happening???
Thanks Paul Boyd/exit

could be a number of things… but first:
a) what exact OS are you running AAS on
b) what exact system are you running it on (be specific about RAM and free
harddisk space)
c) how big is your swap file
d) can you play each of the flics individually in the scriptor before
playing them together in a sequence?
e) do you have any other windows applications open when you are running the
scriptor

I am running DOS on a P90 with 50 Megs of RAM – if this isn't enough for ANS
then I'll take it back. That is the only application running when I tried to
put the script together.

50MB should be plenty… but again, did the flics run properly when played by
themselves instead of in a sequence? also how big is your swap file? -dave
I am currently sitting at my desk at my other job(ORACLE – Yuck!!) I am not
sure what I have my swap file set to, do you have any recommendations at what I
should set it to. I am running PhotoShop 3.0 and I think that when I installed
that it asked my to crank up the size of my swap file. [A [B [C
oops – sorry about that – I should be home in about an hour and I will check it
out – I'll also check back here for the swap file size recommendations.
Thanks for the help Paul Boyd

well, the formula i have used (which by the way has never crashed on me) has
been:
typical animation filesize x 4 = needed amount of RAM
needed amount of RAM x 3 = swap file size

"as soon as the first flic starts my machine freezes up"
Is this flic able to be played when it's the only one? if not, it could be
that the video card driver is involved here too. Could you let us/Dave know
your video card and driver date too, if you think it's relevant?
Thanks.
(Incidentally, is this a large or unusual flic? Can the flics play in a
different order?)
The flic plays ok by itself, it is about 5 megs in size. I am running with the
Diamond Viper Pro SE with 4 Megs of VRAM. This is really weird – I didn't try
to put them in a different order.
Thanks Paul Boyd

Hmmm. It would be good if you could get it to fail with one of our sample
files – that is, in terms of us reproducing it <g>.
Disk resources: you mentioned 50 megs of RAM – is this an unusual amount? I
usually hear 32 or 64 – type numbers. What are your disk resources. I'm
hoping that it's pretty low, and that your Windows Swap file and SET TEMP
variable disk can have more space made available to see if the problem goes
away.

My memory configs are 2×16 chips and 2×8 chips giving me 48 Megs actually, I
like round numbers. I have over 500 megs of available dick space. I'll work
with it more this weekend – if I can figure a way to recreate it for you to
look at I will let you know.
Thanks Paul Boyd
