#Darn that Renderer!
11 messages in this thread
I have 3DS4, and when I make complex images, and render them, the
progress bar in the "transforming objects" part almost always stops at about
one third of the way through, and will stay there. This happens when I am
rendering an object in Gourard, Phong, and Metal, but never in Flat. Sometimes
I can overcome this by toggling to the rendering screen (using the space bar),
and toggling back, but if I stay in the rendering screen for too long, a green
and red warning box comes up, with no words in it, and a box that would say
"continue" or "OK", or something like that. And there is no cursor, and no
matter what I do, nothing happens, so I have to reboot. It is a real pain in
the butt! Is there anything I can do about this? Oh, and this also happens
with the .3ds example files that come with the program.

Dano:
Sounds like you have limited RAM resources, could you describe your system a
bit? Total RAM, processor speed, free hard disk space, etc. are necessary to
help you out.

Robert-
I have a Gateway 2000 P5-100XL, with 32 megs of Ram, and a little more
than half a gigabyte of hard disk space. It runs on a Pentium processor at 100
mhz. The autoexec.bat and config.sys files have the NOEMS option in them, if
it makes any difference. Thanks for the help, Robert.

Dano,
Most likely you have POWER.EXE in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This can hang 3DS.
Remove that line, and any other "green" feature TSR's that you may have.

Brian-
Thanks for the help!

Vicki…
That same little box pops up once in a while for me also, and you're right.
It's a pain in the butt! Only happens to me on frame 999 of 1000 frames
(Murphy's Law). Sometimes it happens on a specific file, but then never again.
Unfortunetly, I don't really know WHY this happens. I assume something in the
file is corrupted for some reason. What I do (if it keeps happening) is to
start a new file and merge all items in from the old one. It works for me (as
far as I know). There are much smarter people than I, so someone may be able
to fill us both in as to the "why".
I'm offering only a "band-aid", so if you do find out a technical reason,
would you be kind enough to buzz me, too?
KEVIN-
Thanks for the help! By the way, I got a message from Brian Rudolph
(ADESK) (71722,170) who said that I may have POWER.EXE in my AUTOEXEC.BAT file,
which may hang up 3DS. He said to remove that line and any other "green"
feature TSR's that you may have. Hope it helps! Any other questions, give him
a call, he knows what he's talking about.

Vicki…(or is it Dano? You're not the guy from Hawaii 5-0 are ya?)
No doubt Brian knows his stuff, however, I sometimes have the prob too as I
said and I know I don't have "power.exe" or any TSR's on my machine, so it
looks like we're back to square 1…..
Kev
Kevin-
Yes, my name is Dano, and no, I'm not the guy from Hawaii 5-0, but I
get that all the time. I'm fourteen. Anyway, look in your CONFIG.SYS file.
On my machine, I found a line that said DEVICEHIGH C:\POWER.EXE, or something
like that. Just look in your AUTOEXEC.BAT and your CONFIG.SYS files for
something like that, and type rem before the line. It worked great on my
machine. Hope it helps.

Kevin,
A halt during the transofming objects stage is almost always the result of a
power saving feature. As Dano said, take a good hard look at your config.sys
and autoexec.bat. Sometimes it is called something else, or has a load high or
other memory manager statement in front of it so that it is missed.
Also, some PC's don't have this statement at all, becuase the power saving
features are built into the BIOS. Check with the computer manufacturer for
information on how to disable these features from the machines BIOS, if you
fall into this catagory.

Greetings. I just scanned the msgs here for the same problem as everyone else
(Transforming objects hangup) and believe you have provided the answer.
I will give it a shot. Thanx for your input.
