Hi Guys & Gals, Two quick questions, I'm assisting an A'CAD person teach a 3DS class – no problemo's However, we do have 2 small gliches…Errrrr 1. When we export from A'CAD 13 using the buildin 3DS filter, then import into 3ds we get strange face changes..(ie a capped cylindical object in A'CAD pulls into 3ds with the cap faces vertices to one side and the face built from that side…(it's difficult to visualise cos' it difficult to explain) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The DXF export works perfectly~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` Anyway is there any tricks to keep in mind when exporting to a 3ds file from inside ACAD 13? Since the great "-G" invented the 3ds file format, I suspose the problem must be in A'CAD13 export filter? 2. We have just loaded A'CAD 13 and R4 (on the same PC's – yes using different configuration) and now we get a "Dongle missing" error in R4….Is there some special order for the dongles? I have hear you should NOT upgrade R3 to R4, but delete (except your matlibs) and install as new ?????? Think it will fix the problem? PS: I saw "Quicktime VR" to-day…it was so good, so interactive, so cheap, it was scary….Check-it-out.. CU GH In OZ

To go from acad to 3DS, I suggest you look at the following export variable: FACETRES, which changes the mesh resolution when exprting from ACAD13, and this is especially true for all curved or bend objects. I have been using this for a couple of months, only in the beginning having some trouble. BTW you can also import 3DS files, change them without even loosing mapping and materials when exporting back to a 3DS file from ACAD13. Christophe

DXFOUT and 3DSOUT will give you *very* different results from the same AutoCAD geometry. Read Chapter 11 of Inside 3D Studio for the whole, detailed story. For maximum control I recommend using DXF. If you have to export ACIS then use 3DSOUT. – Phil

ThanX Phil, I didn't think Inside 3DS covered Acad13…Looks like its time to upgrade Inside 3ds 2nd Edition (R4) <g> CU GH
