Well,
I got the setup disk from the DPS BBS and got my PVR to configure, but if I try
and grab a fram I get garbage. If I try and capture video I get data overflow
error. anyone got any clues where to begin looking for problems?

I really haven't a clue Tom but two thoughts come to mind, check that your SCSI
drive(s) are properly terminated and if there's any facility to reformat the
hard-drives, I try that as well… next step would be to see if you have any
base addressing problems for the SCSI…

Hi John, how ya' been?
The drive seems to be working fine, I can load a series of targa files and play
them back. The fields are messed up and they were rendered for my Targa+ but it
does work smoothly. It seems that the capture portion is the part that is not
working. If I do a grab, the disk chatters and the file is captured, it's just
there seems to be no video at the input.
Still poking around in the dark, boy do I _love_ new hardware 🙁

Pretty good, as I have some time to get out and enjoy this most excellent

Don't have any idea what would cause the disk chatter other than the scsi
controller, I assume like with other controllers it has a base address, if
you're using a Pentium it might be that you have to have shared memory
enabled.. I know this is true for the Ill Pro otherwise it won't see its base
address… on the other hand I have an NCR SCSI PCI and its talks to the bios
so that that isn't necessary…
Anyway if you want to try it, its in the Plug and Play section and it allows
you to set a base address and how much… also if you run MSD you'll be able to
tell if the controller Bios is actually where it should be… MSD is in your
DOS directory if you're not familiar with it…
Hope everything else finds you well, and that this is just a minor nuisance for
the time being…

Nothing in the perception Doc's say anything about base address settings. It
only mentions the IRQ requirement.

If you read the NCR literature on their PCI SCSI adapter they don't talk about
base I/O either, but every SCSI I know of has a base I/O unless DPS managed to
incorporate the addressing on the board exclusively, which doesn't seem likely.
FWIW The PCI BIOS automatically configures for an NCR SCSI card which has a
"plug and play bios" incorporated. I suspect that as the PVR is a PCI based
card that it also has the "plug and play bios" incorporated as well. The
problem is that if you're running a Targa or something else that has a driver
assign the base address, then that device could be stepping on the automatic
configuration… a bernoulli or a scsi based CD rom could also cause the
problem as they are all typically loaded after the system boots…

As for your PVR not capturing stills I have not been able to consistantly
capture a still in the three weeks I've had the thing. For your "DATA OVERFLOW"
try lowering you block limit and/or raising the Q factor, I find that disabling
the "Auto Q factor" and "Dynamic Q factor" gives me more dependable results.
These sound like neat features but they don't seem to do much for me. Lastly
I'm sure you have set your video input to the format your'e using (Composite,
S-video,Component) this little number had me going on late night.
Hopefully this will be of some help.

What drive are you useing??
I saw this set up used with a 4 Gig Micropolis
drive with auto Q on and recorded more than
1 a solid minute without a hitch.. This clip was of
hockey players takeing slap shots.
I thought it was the greatest..
But now I am wondering if it was as good as I thought..

I'm not sure I'm the person you intended to reply to as I don't quite
understand how your post applies to me. I also have had fantastic results
digisizing video, as much as 8 minutes straight. I have the 4 gig Micropolis.

Dynamic Q. Wow 8 minutes can you share your settings..
and what the final file size was.. I would really like to know
as I am going to be getting a Perception in about 2 weeks..
Or whenever DPS turns on the board makeing machine.
