I am looking for expansion memory for my Amiga 1000 (currently w/512K). If
anyone has purchased expansion memory for an Amiga 1000 lately, and you are
pleased with its performance, please send me a message about what you
purchased: brand, amount of memory, price, address of the place where you made
the purchase, special features, the prices of the memory chips for more
expansion later, and whether the product is available by mail.
Here is what I'd like to get: Added memory from 512K to 2 Megs, with a
battery-powered clock, and expandable in the long run to 2 megs (or maybe up to
8 megs). I've heard a lot about the Microbotics StarBoard2 expansion module,
so I'd really like to hear about prices of this product, but I also would like
to hear about other brands. Please don't tell me about internal
(Tear-Apart-My-Amiga-And-Void-My-Warranty) expansions, as I want to hang it off
the side of my computer.
I'd really like to hear from those of you associated with vendors.
Unfortunately I will be moving soon, so I won't be able to respond quickly,
but I'll be back on-line about August 15th.

I would highly recommend the StarBoard2 over -anything- else for the sole
reason that it can be stuck inside an A2000 with the addition of a very
low-cost adaptor. With the multifunction module option (that goes inside the
starboard) you can add a math coprocessor, it has a clock, ram-checking
functions and the ability to turn the whole Starboard into a write-protected
Ramdisk. Or you can opt for a low-cost SCSI interface to plug into the
StarBoard2. IT's easily the best thing going.
RAM prices are fluctuating madly, so I'd hate to give you prices. But I do
know that recently Microbotics was having a sale on the 512K model (which is
expandable to 1 meg as it comes. To go to 2 meg an additonal $40 daughterboard
must be purchased.).
AFter looking them all over carefully I chose the STarboard – and have yet to
regret it.

The Pacific Peripherals Subsystems allow you to use A2000 boards now with
A500's and A1000's. Later the boards slip into A2000's without modification.
And you're not just limited to memory boards.

Chip, I, too have to highly recommend the Starboard 2. I just bought one also.
I got the SCSI interface module with it which also contains a battery backed
clock. It's definately awesome. Probably the best way to
purchase one is mail-order through Abel Supply out of Tennesee. My Starboard 2
with 512k installed, the SCSI interface module and the optional UpperDeck
module (which allows you to add the second megabyte – mine's is empty now…)
cost me about $420.00 and that included UPS 2nd day shipping!!! I'm calling
from home now so I don't have any more information about Abel Supply with me,
but, Monday I'll call here from work and post the info. Abel Supply has a BBS
that you can call and order from… that's how I did it.

I bought a Starboard2 when they were fully populated with 2 Meg of ram for
$430.00 plus shipping from Abel Supply in TN. I know you can't get it now for
that price but I still think they are your best bet for the lowest price by
mail. They're voice number is 615-428-5100 and they're BBS is 615-453-0643.
Download they're catalog.arc file. I'm sure you'll find it quite complete.
