$799 is the last I heard. If (ah, how that word abounds when talking about
VideoToaster!) the $1500 tag is correct, then to hell with it… I'll stick
with what I have.
Patrick, Hopefully we will start shipping the next batch in about 5 weeks.
For us it's a RAM problem. NewTek was at SIGGRAPH with the proto of the
toaster, but I didn't hear anything about delivery. Several folks, did say
that the new price will be $1599.00.
NewTek has had a prototype of the toaster for about 8-12 months now. I'd
sure like to be able to get $1600 for vapor!! <grin>
Bill, In their defense a little, (very little) the cost of hardware
production these days, has just gone through the roof. And with very few
exceptions, most major magazines need 2-3 months lead time for ads, hence
the appearance of vaporware. We have decided to address the problem, by
just not advertising in major media at all!. I do think they should have
been a lot closer to actually delivering a product before taking a demo
unit all over the country a getting every one's hopes up. For our Video
Digitizer, we actually only showed it for the first time this last week at
SiGGraph in Atlanta, and we are praying that the ram we have coming for it
will arrive in the next 4-6 weeks so we can deliver the units we have
promised. It can be a tuff biz, and sometimes you get your shirt tail
caught in your fly!
I talked to NewTek last week. Original announced price was $799. Then the
chip shortage. They started saying $1499. They've now got a guarenteed
supplier. They are now quoting "under $1000". They'll probably put a
'solid' price on it when it goes into production. (BTW, first production
run model will only work with 3/4 inch tape)
