Howdy! I'm new to the AmigaTech Forum, but have had an Amiga 500 since January. I've finally decided to sell my Apple IIe (which I have been using access CIS) and get a modem for the 500. I would like to know what kind of hardware and software others have and which would they recommend. Thanks, Mike

Mike I use Diga! (Aegis) on my A2000. A good package though not Compuserve specific. Would nevertheless recommend it. Regards – Alfred (calling from Thalwil near Zurich,Switzerland)

Because of it's lack of QB protocol I wouldn't suggest Diga!. It will take twice as long as necessary to do file transfers.

If you wouldn't suggest Diga, what would you suggest? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike

I'd suggest Access! and Cocomm. Both are full featured. Access! has more bells and whistles, Cocomm has super scripting features. Both support QB protocol. Any other protocol on CIS is a waste of money as QB is roughly twice as fast as xmodem.

Mike, Hi and welcome! For a suggested modem, the SupraModem 2400 seems to be the modem of choice hereabouts. There's an offer for Amigafora members tht discounts the already low price, it is 99% Hayes compatible (miising one strange register) and has drawn raves from the members here that have used it. 2400 baud for _well_ under $200 is _not_ to be sneezed at! You'll find additional information about the offer from Supra in Lib 1, SUPRA.TXT. Highly recommended. By the way, I'm an ex-Apple user myself, but still have the thing sitting on top of a desk, slowly gathering a very thick layer of dust. 8) Doug

Hi, Mike. Welcome. My modem is a Supra 2400 – very inexpensive as 2400b modems go, but I've found it to be extremely dependable. Supra also gives good service. I've heard nothing but good about this modem. For CompuServe, there's nothing like Whap! I had a bit of trouble getting it set up, but it is amazing how rapidly the PROGRAM improved as *I* learned how to use it! Whap! will handle just about anything you do on CIS faster and more easily than anything else you can get. Read the section called Whap! or look for it in Lib.16. Betty
