#TCP/IP RSHD?

Did you catch the earlier conversation that Pietrowicz and I had here? There's
a gizmo for the PC or Unix called Pagesat. For $1200, you get a model-like
device plus a satellite dish. Hook it up, instant one-way Internet news feed,
continuous 9600 baud. It's much easier to convince someone to give you
Internet access through their existing Internet-connected computer if you
convince them you won't be sitting on the modem receiving news or reading news.
In other words, you can ask for a "post only" account, so you can pass mail
through their system for the odd private e-mail you might receive. All your
news comes through the dish.
Of course, someday your local cable connection will probably be an Internet
connection, but meanwhile, you can do this…
John,
Nope, I didn't see the msgs about Pagesat. $1200, sounds like a decent
deal if you are serious about sucking up tons of Internet news. I do have
access to a place that handles a portion of Internet news but it is not a
reliable BBS.
Warner Amex has just rewired our town with fiber-optic cable maybe it
won't be too long before we get more than the usual ooze over the wire.

Ooo, I'm jealous. I'm in a backwater, we won't even get ISDN until 1995.
I am in the Akron/Cleveland Ohio area which has a large population so
some things are happening here. ISDN? We'll see. Our telephone system is
with GTE (PPPPPPPPPPPPPP). We don't even have caller ID.
