Yes, by GFxBase. However, I still need the network hookup to use it.
I called them a couple of weeks ago to try and get some information. Got an
answering machine. I left a message indicating I was interested in getting
info, but they never called me back. I am not encouraged to do business with
companies that don't return phone messages from potential customers. I had
called several companies during that same time to get information on network
related products. Some have yet to return the phone call. Others were asked
to mail or fax information, which was never forthcoming. And people wonder why
software development for the Amiga isn't better?
You're right. I called them also and got an answering machine. Do you know
any dealers who carry it?

It is not currently available. The ASDG EB920(?) is, and most dealers
should be able to get it for you.

The Ameristar board will be available very shortly, so they told me.
We were talking about Xwindows for the Amiga from GfxBase. I was commenting
that I had called, got an answering machine, and have yet to hear back.
Actually, the Amierstar people were helpful. They will be selling their board
through a dealer in south Florida – Creative Equipment.
By strange coincidence, I talked to Rich today (I've known him a long
time, but haven't talked to him for a year or two). Talked to CEI, too.
My "very shortly" is much shorter than yours. 🙂
As far as Xwindows, I don't know that you can do anything but order
direct. Dale Luck is a busy guy since he has another very full time job
these days. (For what "full time" means, you'll have to remember that Dale
was one of the original Amiga "dancing fools." They played loud music and
danced during compiles to stay awake.)
He'll get back to you eventually, even if that might not be as soon as

By your first comment, I'm assuming that the new A2066 card is almost
ready. I'm going to have to give some serious thought as to how I will
proceed. I talked to one of our network specialists yesterday who told me they
are just about to get a SLIP server online. If they do, then I can do tcp/ip
access via the Amiga/Amax since I have MacTCP and MacSLIP with the Microphone
II Pro software. That presents a less expensive way to allow normal access to
our network via telephone dialup. However, the hardware solution is more
costly. I would need the network card and software for the Amiga, but then
there is little else available for the Amiga in the way of network tools, and
the university's network provides no Amiga support.
In the long run, it seems my easiest solutions involve the Mac
emulation. Of course, if the university buys me my own new, fast Mac to
replace my old, slow SE, then I won't even need the Amiga!! Then I'd have to
figure out how to get rid of an unnecessary 3000.

I have no idea. I've only seen one or two ads in any magazine. My
only source of info about them is in the AC Product Guide. They aren't very
visible. I think the operation is run by Dale Luck. Maybe he runs it out of
his garage!
I use the X11 software. I also recently had a lot of trouble contacting
GfxBase with a question of mine. It turns out that Dale Luck, and several of
the original Amiga developers, are working on the 3DO cd-rom hardware
(according to Dale, who FINALLY called be back). X11 works fine, but I find
that a lot of workstation X-based software assumes that you have more than
~400×640 pixels available. X11 allows you to open huge virtual screens, so the
X windows fit on them, but it gets to be a pain to roam around with the mouse.
BTW, the latest X release from them does support AGA (though I don't have that
yet).
