Letting TABs expand to the indent amount that you want mostly works fine
for program source (except of course inside strings), but what about other
kinds of files. My editor automatically compresses whitespace into
appropriate sequences of TABs and spaces, as do most UNIX editors. If you
change your tabstops, you will mess up any tables or columns or indents
that are used there also!
