I'm here. Tell me what you have learned so far about the Texture Module. Is
it possible to create your texture or just or just manipulate the ones that
come with the package?
I have been wasting my time on Stereo 3-D and Gravity. Texture,
though worthy of attention, just got pushed down the list. My impression
is that (A) Within TSilver you can just manipulate the standard textures
and that (B) Outside of TSilver and within the language of 'C' you can
create your own texture. Perhaps our Host can shine a light on the
subject. Do you have anything specific in mind? Perhaps a Formica surface,
or a texture of evenly distributed dust bunnies? 😎 Please forgive my
levity.
Bob. Your levity is ALWAYS welcome. The texture I want to make is of a
field of stars. Right now I have to load in several brushes. This is no
problem, but I thought that a texture might take up less memory. Also, I
would like to fool around and see what kind of textures I could come up
with. On another note, I already told you my feelings about 3D specs (I
forgot to mention that I dont have that capability with my version of
TSilver), but what is this "gravity" thing you mentioned?
The gravity I mentioned was regular old gravity. The Story command, used in
an Animation, just provides regular old linear motion, not acceleration.
While both kinds of motion are fine, I just want to get a good feel for
introducing some real world forces into my little universe. Perhaps after I
get a handle on gravity, I will add mass and get a little momentum going.
Who knows where it could lead, perhaps a Ray Traced Fractal Animation in
Stereo Vision. I am not talking practical applications, just fun stuff.
The Stereo Glasses are gimicky, I admit. But they work, SO I can have my
own home brew "View-Master" animations. And you are correct that they don't
work on video-taped output. I plan on keeping my day time job, before you
suggest it.
Bob, So, your experimenting with the "story" command and trying to get a
gravity effect. I thought you meant that there was a "gravity" command on
your version of TSilver. That would almost make it worhtwhile to upgrade
from 3.0 to the "stereo" version. I'm tempted to upgrade just to see what
your doing.
The story command won't do non-linear motion, such as gravity. Story just
moves the object the same amount from frame to frame, while an object under
acceleration from gravity moves a little from 1 to 2, a little bit more
from 2 to 3, and even more from 3 to 4, and so on. As far as I know, there
is no way to make story do this kind of motion. If you NEVER use the
stereo feature in TSilver SV, it is worth the upgrade. The improved quality
of the Solid Model alone is worth it. Some people don't do full traces
anymore, it is that good. And the upgrade is just $30.00, cheap at twice
that amount. I also have Sculpt 3D XL, which was an $80.00 upgrade. Turned
out it was, in some respects, a step backward from the old version, and the
Scan Line mode just does not compare with the Tsilver Solid model mode, not
even in the same ball park. Although I must admit the object editor is
still superior, I am getting used to the TSilver object editor. Send me a
cell or a rendered picture (in IFF) if you don't mind. They couldn't be
worse than mine.
Bob… now, if Impulse HAD included ARexx in their 3.0 (as they SAID they
would) you could do gravity… shoot, you could set up a mathematical path
in your ARexx program, and them just move objects around according to the
path and get gravity or whatever. If Impulse is looking for a concrete
example of what-the-heck-good-is-ARexx, that would be one. RE the Haitek,
they may be gimmicky, but its still greaT. 3D{is the way to go. A lot of
fun.. BTW, Haite{ was going to release a module to allow viewing 3D on
videotape VHS… don't know if they ever did.. keep rendering… –jp–
I guess that ARexx would have been useful, but since I don't use it,
I really couldn't say. I just went into each cell and positioned the ball
by entering the coordinates. That could get quit tiresome if there are
several objects acting under acceleration. But I guess I should keep this
all in perspective. I should have to do SOME of the work. 😎
