LA-34 re: your # 20971

Richard,
Hmm, now I'm stumped. I assumed that the LA34 would respond to the same
ESCape sequences as the LA120 and LA100. Bearing in mind of course that
not ALL of the features present on the 100 and 120 would be available on
the 34. When you say the Octal codes don't work, were they specific ones,
or didn't it matter which ones you tried using. For the record you could
use ASCII or HEX codes if you wanted, you just have to translate the Octal
to the proper equivalent in ASCII or HEX. One thought just occurred to me.
All of the DEC printers use more than just the ESCAPE code. Their ESCape
sequence "triggers" consist of the ESCAPE followed by the left square
bracket ( [ ) and then the parameters you're passing and terminated by a
specific character. For example, on the LA50 to set the Lpi to 8 you would
issue the ESC[2z command. To set it back to six lines per inch the command
would be ESC[1z. One thing that is VERY important is the case of the
terminating character. In both of my preceding examples the terminator is
the letter z. Notice it is a Lowercase z and *NOT* an Uppercase Z.
On other matters, a couple of clarifications for you. First it's DEC not
DEK. DEC stands for <D>igital <E>quipment <C>orporation. Also, when
replying to messages here you can use the REPLY command, as I did here, and
that way your message stays "threaded" to the original. Additionaly, you
don't have to reenter the UserId and Name since REPLY automatically takes
care of that for you. You also don't have to enter the TO: FROM: in the
body of your messages as that is also handled by the CIS software.
Finally, I remembered you said you were new to Forums. If so, you might
want to stop by the Practice Forum, GO PRACTICE, where you can experiment
with the forum software, ask questions, etc. WITHOUT paying the standard
CIS hourly connect charges.
