HELP…I need some cables to hook up two RK07s, I'm too cheap to buy them
from DEC!!! I thought that somebody might have some extras in there "junk"
box (grin).
Also I need a copy of b

I also need a copy of basic plus, I bought a used system,got all the books,
with the tape but for some unknown, I can't read it. If you could help me
out on any or all… give me a E-Mail or call at 616-453-8210 (ask for
Don).
Just about forgot….
Believe it or not, I am in the look for more RK07s and Disk Packs.

Please note that it is NOT legal for one customer to transfer Digital
software to another customer, except for operating systems which can be
sold along with the CPU on which they are licensed (and some other products
like DECnet which are effectively licensed to the machine, not just to the
customer). The only legal way for you to solve your Basic-Plus problem is
to get Digital to provide you with a readable tape, but of course you will
also have to persuade them that you have a legitimate license for the
product.

Speaking of licences, I have a question: If one sells a computer to
a company like Midwest (which reformatts all of it's disks), or dumps the
CPU , can one have the licence transferred to another CPU of like power?
(AKA I dump my 11/45 for a 23+. Can I run the old software on the new
machine, 1 licence, 1 machine)

Chris,
Operating system licenses are transferable to a new owner, with the CPU
only; you can't transfer them to a new CPU that you own.
Layered product licenses (e.g. BASIC or whatever) are transferable to a
new CPU, within your organization only; you can't transfer them to a
different owner… sort of the opposite of the operating system licenses.
A very few products that one might think of as "layered" are actually
"system-integrated" and follow the operating-system rules, e.g. DECnet.
Any of these transfers are supposed to be accomplished via a DEC Software
License Redesignation Form, I believe. I'm not 100% certain that a
same-owner transfer of a layered product license to a new CPU requires a
form, but I think it does.

I forgot to mention: On a same-owner, new-CPU transfer of a
layered-product license, a cost-free transfer can only be done if the new
CPU is at the same, or a lower, price tier when compared with the previous
CPU. This is most significant in the VAX world where there are a lot of
price tiers. In the PDP-11 family, there are only two tiers, and I *think*
the 11/83 and 11/84 (and, presumably, /93 and /94) are the sole occupants
of the high-price tier. If you go from a low-tier machine to a high-tier
machine, you have to pay the price difference.

Hm. I have a RK07 sitting in my basement. Where do you live? As far
as the cables, regular RL01/02 cables should work also. What OS are you
running, and what kind of 11 do you have?
