Greg, I can guarantee you I didn't take a lightning hit. When that happens lots of other things die too and my burglar alarm on my house is most obnoxious when we have major power line variations. Then of course there is the $100 Data Shield spike protector/filter that was one of PC Magazines editors choice. I can rule out any spikes or power irregularities. We did cover that while I was getting my electrical engineering degree. I had a Rev 4.3 motherboard machine for years and before that a 1000 and all of them with no problems to speak of. The older 2000 began to have timing problems when I added a 2620 and a 2286 and Dave Haynie and I talked about it. I had all the field upgrades performed and they helped somewhat but I just decided to use the old 1000 and upgrade to a current level machine. The first machine blew the mouse port within the first 3 weeks. Yes, I bought it locally and the dealer got me a new motherboard, Rev 6.2B. This board has been behaving most oddly in the time I've had it. Read my post in the printers section! Quality is something that is hard to quantitize, I'm used to IBM systems, Sony XBR-Pro Monitors, and JVC S-VHS VCR's so I'm perhaps a bit pickier than most. I can tell you though I am not amused when my dealer calls Commodore's special service number at 3:00 P.M. (Penn. time) and gets no answer. And when he has the opportunity to leave a message the majority of the time his calls are not returned. The main point should be maybe I did get a lemon and if so I'm going to get it replaced while in the warranty period! Wouldn't you? Keith
