Greg: Yes, the shorting block on j101 had to be moved to pins 2 and 3, this
enables address line 19 from the 68000 that controls the 1 meg address
range. Jumper pad j500 has a two pad jumper with a trace conntcting the two
pads. This is the trace that needs to be severed. This trace keeps the
_exram signal from being tied to ground. Boy is that trace hard to see and
it is very close to other traces that must not be severed so it is tough to
cut it!
Tell me about it! Back when the 1 meg Agnus came I was upgrading all the
machines in our store. I ran out of time finishing up the last one on Fri.
afternoon, so on Sat. morn one of our salespeople decided to help me out
and make the cut. Somewhere he found one of those curve tip linoleum knives
to do it with. Why he didn't use the Xacto knife lying on the bench, I'll
never know. When he tried to make the cut, his hand slipped and he slashed
a 6 inch gash across the PC Board.
3 days and 47 patched traces later I finally had the machine working again.
But it was never quite the same.

You oughta see how we desolder a chip from the board. (Hey, Bill! Got a
tuff one here. Hand me that napalm canister).

Actually, to remove chips from boards, I DO use the method presented in
volume 1, issue 1 of BYTE. Mount the board in a vise, take a propane torch
in one hand and a pliers in the other, and go to work! You can clean a
board off fast that way. Unfortunately, the board usually catches fire
some where along the way. Oh well, nothings perfect!

Yeah, it works. I've also done the same thing using one of those big heat
guns. It works and doesn't set the board on fire quite as easily.

I use a dental handpiece (drill). Little diamond tips cut and drill right
where you want.
