Talk about a small world! My office happens to be on State Street, which
is adjacent and parallet to Church St. I have a nice view of St. Phillips
Steeple from my office window. This really is a charming city with a lot
of character — including horse drawn carriages for touring and getting to
your wedding reception on time in a traditional fashion. My wife's parents
actuall [C [C [AWell, we have been living in Charleston since 1971 and
truly enjoy it. If ever you have a chance to visit. I am sure we would
like to meet you and show you a few places.

Howdy, John. I saw your mention a couple days ago about not being able
to find a Charleston area Amiga user group. A friend of mine says he's seen
someone from one on a BBS somewhere — so they definitely exist. Especially
since it's a large city, it'd be strange if there weren't any. I'd suggest
contacting some of the computer stores in the area since they sometimes are
in touch with user groups. (Naturally, the Amiga-specific stores would be
the best bet.)

Hi, Tom. That BBS person is probably me. If you want to sign on it is
803720-8587 — designed for public education and exchange of information in
the field of psychiatry, psychology, behavioral medicine. There is one
store in the area of Charleston that carries Amiga equipment — they limit
themselves to the model 500 saying there is insufficient demand for higher
level machines. There is a service center approved by Amiga, thank God.
However, they carry no equipment. All the professional stores deal with
IBM compatabiles or IBM. There is a large IBM users group with good
equipment, knowledgeable people, and even a good bank account. Once there
was a sub-group for Amiga. Now, there exists only a subgroup for
Apple/Macintosh Users. I heard the other day that a manufacturer of some
type of hardware for the Amiga has moved in to the city. Will need to
follow up on that one.

I think I know the store you mean that already exists — I forgot the
name offhand but they don't exactly overwhelm you with their selection.

Nope, twarn't you on the BBS scene — this was someone claiming to
already be a Chas. area UG member. I'll ask the guy that originally spotted
the message to keep an eye out for this person so we can get some more
info.
Meanwhile, have you tried something like TFL (The Final List) by Chet
Solace? It's a huge file, but it's supposed to be the last word in
Amiga-oriented BBSs and would be a good source of Ami boards in town. The
people frequenting those boards would probably know where a user group
would be…

Tom, are you located in Chs? Have you visited? The store I was referring
to is called the Software Haus. I will look at TFL to see if there is a
local Amiga User Group, but, should I look for the file on Compuserve?

I'm not in Charleston, but I live about 100 miles from there. I've been
to the Software Haus and it wasn't real impressive at the time. Maybe it's
improved by now; this was over a year ago. As for TFL, I'm sure there's a
copy here on CIS — it's probably THE most popular BBS list that exists for
the Amiga, although it's pretty hefty. If it's not here, I might be able to
locate an older version; the shareware term program JR-comm comes with a
subset of that list that you can import as a dialing directory!

Thanks for the note on the TFL. I will download it sometime. It will be
nice to see a network of places to obtain information. I must admit I am
impressed with the wealth of info to be obtained on the Compuserve Network.
I know I have not yet scratched the surface. By the way, where do you
live 100 miles away? If you want, you can call me on my own BBS, NBM

between professionals in the field of mental health, and for public

If you will GO CBMSER and leave a message there for Dave Minnich, he will
get you a list of the user groups nearest you. Tell him the names the
places you would consider to be within reasonable distance from you. Dave
is very prompt about such things.
