i have an A2000HD that i have been considering putting a sysquest drive on.
since you have already done it, did you need to purchase a seperate controller.
also did you mount yours internally or externally. i'll have to use an external
drive because i also have an AT bridgeboard w/5.25 drive installed. i need to
expand my harddrive storage capacity because the 52meg hardcard just doesn't
seem to have enough space anymore. by the way i checked on bigger quantum
hardcards last month now that the prices are cheap and they have discontinued
that product. like you i have found some good sources for syquest drive
cartridges that make it a very cheap option.

(BTW, I have a brother named Mike White). I have an Amiga 2000 with a
SCSI card internally mounted with my SyQuest 88MB Removeable HD in the 5
1/4 bay. It fit perfectly. (Yet it is too tight a fit to fit into my
4000. There I'd have to mount it externally, BLAH!)
Software Hut sells a single bay external box for the SyQuest, I believe
they cost $95. It comes with a power supply. They can be reached at
1-800-93-AMIGA.
BTW, where and how much are the cartridges you mentioned? (88MB
hopefully).

mei/micro center, which is my main source for disks,printer paper and printer
cartridges, has the 88mb carts for 99.97 as singles and 94.97 in orders of 5 or
more. the 44mb are 64.97 singly and 59.97 in 5 or more. there may be something
better out there but this company is usually a tough one to beat. i also have a
friend who has been using a syquest drive on his amiga for a while and also
buys the cartridges in bulk.

I am using the GVP 4008 SCSI Controller to drive the SQ3105 SyQuest 105 meg
Removable drive. I am also using an A4000 so that puts another spin on
things… The drive is mounted internally but it would be easy to move it to
the expansion box I have my WangTEK tape drive in… There are some excellent
makers/sellers of external SCSI compatible boxes in the Computer Shopper…
Make sure that the controller you are using has an external port and that it is
compatible with the cable and port on the expansion box.

Have you heard of the newest SyQuest drive now available? It is a 270MB
removable in 3.5" format. It can read/write to the 105MB carts too!

I've seen them available from MACWarehouse for 599.95 and with a cartridge
its $649.95 (mounted in external case). Carts vary in price 1-4 for 99.95
each, the next five are $4/pc less, buy 10 and it's 89.95 each.
The 105MB carts are just $69.95 each.
I've just started keeping tabs on this product and expect the price to be
less later. Usually MACwarehouse has fair pricing but if you look around
you'll find a better deal. Probably find them in the newest Computer
Shopper.
I own three of the 44MB models. Two to three of them are connected to an
A2000 most of the time. One of the three gets shuttled back and forth to
the MACII cx that sits next to the Amiga.
I just recently added a 345 MAXTOR to my SCSI lineup but the next large
drive I buy just very well may be the 270MB version of SyQuest's 3.5"
format removable drive.
Now if your looking for compatibility with other SyQuest owners then I'd
opt for the 44MB or 44/88 model. However, if its just to give you added
storage, forget the 88MB model and get the 270/105 model.

I thought the 270 Meg carts were 5 1/4 inch. You mean there is a 3 1/2
inch one too?

The ad says it can read the 105MB carts, which are 3.5", besides read/write to
270MB cartridges. What else could it mean but the format is 3.5"?

Are you sure these drives work with the Amiga? A salesman at a local
store told me that they had ROMS that work only with the MacIntosh. I
don't know how knowledgeable he might or might not be.

I don't know if they work with the Amiga. Hadn't heard anything about the ROMS
only working with MAC. So I guess we need to find someone to answer that
question who has tried them, huh?
I would hope that they will work with our Amigas, it be a shame to be hampered
because of such a thing.

I do hope so, also. I would love to have one of them – and be able to
move it from my Toshiba (which has a SCSI interface) to my Amiga as
needed.

Well, if no one comes forward and tells us it will work I guess I'll have to
test the waters myself. I'll check and see if MACwarehouse offers a 30 day
money-back guarantee or something similar.
I'd like to have 270MB carts on hand rather than the 44MB or 88MB or 105 or the
Bernouli 150s. <G> I just added a 345MB Maxtor to replace a dead 108MB drive
and the max has only 98MB of space left!

price with great convenience. Almost worth waiting a year & a half to
get SCSI.
