Okay! Since you asked! 🙂 I was there when you were talking about
digitizing from a VHS (And since I had just ordered and was intending to do
that, I was interested). The discussion seemed negative, however I got
mine and was VERY happy with the results!! I even get good pictures from
my OLD 2 head Beta. (When I can find a freeze frame without that da*n
distortion!) However, the question came up about a color splitter. Will it
work without a digital freeze frame? Was there an answer? Some magazines
say yes and some say no, so they're no help. (P.S. I love you choice of
music for your hold! I almost enjoyed it!!) 🙂 TTYL

I have a VCR with a digital freeze frame, and the Color Splitter by
Microsearch and I can digitize images perfectly. I even uploaded a few
examples of what quality I get from a digital VCR on the AMiga Arts DERIVED
ART library. Check 'em out, they are two pics from the video Batman.
So, I can positively say YES – you can use the color splitter with a VCR.
The Color splitter was made to work with a colro video camera, and the
output of a VCR is the same. (Maybe not quality wise, but signal wise its
pretty much the same).

HI, Joe! What VCR with digital freeze frame are you using? I have a
chance to pick up a Panasonic 1830 with nine frame still store , and if I
read the hype correctly, a direct frame grab from incoming live video.

I'm using a Toshiba DX800 digital hi-fi VCR. It's a 4-head machine, with a
digital freeze frame off of video or live broadcase. I'm not sure what you
mean by 9 frame still store, unless it remembers 9 freeze frames. I'm not
sure what good it is. Mine only stores one.
I'm happy with the unit , resolutino for the freeze frame seems good,
though not as high as I'd like. (I don't think any consumer deck will give
me my desired resolution). I bought mine for around $700 about 2 years ago.

The use of a color splitter without a digital freeze frame is
possible, but there are varying results. DigiView was designed for use
with the Color Filter wheel provided. DigiView expects to see a stable
image and if the image has moved between one color and the next, you can
get some "fringe" colors on the image. Some VCRs work better than others,
so you might want to see if you can get a color splitter on a trial basis.
