Ron, Your Super Denise is easy to install. What you're going to need is a small (non-magnetized) screwdriver and to be safe a grounding wrist strap. First remove the cover and Power Supply from your 2000. These steps are outlined in your users manual. This will expose your motherboard. The 2000's Denise Chip is to the right of Agnus (looking from the front of the machine. Its position is also marked on the motherboard. Before touching the motherboard ground thyself. Winters dry air makes zapping loved ones and your Amiga that much easier. If you do not have a grounding wrist strap touch the CASE of your power supply before touching anything else. Try to work on a static free surface as possible. Look at your Denise chip and note the orientation of the notch on the chip itself. It looks like a small halfmoon depression on either end of the chip. Make certain that your Super Denise goes in exactly in the same orientation. To remove your Denise (don't kill me guys 🙂 ) use your small screw driver and slowly pry up one side of the chip then the other. Try to keep the chip as level as possible when prying up. This keeps your pins straight. After takeing out your old Denise put in your new chip by first placeing your chip into the socket gently. BEFORE apply any pressure to seat the chip look around the chip to make as certain as possible that all your pins look like they are seated in their respective holes. Sometimes new chip pins are a little wide or bowed out so my best advice to you is to put one side of pins in first the apply GENTLE pressure until your chips pins are in their sockets. Keep your old Denise in a safe place your may need her later as a spare. Now press gently downward. Do not put your weight into it you can break your motherboard. Reinstall your power supply but not your cover. Make certain that your system boots before reinstalling the system cover. Note : If your have any other cards near the power supply or video cards remove them before removeing the power supply. Note the position of SCSI and power cables before disconneting. Keep all screws in a cup or small baggie. Just leaving them out is generally the best way to lose them. My cat thinks its great fun to see how far a mounting screw will slide as opposed to my smaller drive screws. Hope this helps, 🙂 Shawn Silent Paw Productions
