John, Maybe you do have six megs. Apple recently started shipping lots of their iron with an extra meg of RAM. Are you sure the "256K SIMMs" aren't really 512K SIMMs? I don't have a IIci, but as I recall the built in video shows down applications run from the first bank of RAM. One reason to put the smaller SIMMs in that bank is to force all applications to run out of the second bank. -Lofty Read action !re Enter reply. The SIMMs in the machine were clearly from two manufacturers, the ones I think are 256K arehave four memory-looking chips on them, with '256' in the part number, and a smaller Apple-stamped chip off to the side. The other four are from "VCS", Viking something something, and those eight chips are Samsung stamped with with a part number that includes '1000'. The Maxz (I read the numbers to the Mac Zone setech, he confirmed this.) So I shI can't figure out wheree the meg is from… maybe those are 256K x 4 chips?, not 256×1? OK, I popped the case: the five-chip Apple SIMM has 'MCM514256AJ9080' on them, the other VCS has eight 'KM41C1000AJ-8' chips. Thanks for your quick help… Make them at 'VCI', IViking Compeonents Inc.
