Has anyone else had difficulty getting JLINK to work in making a RAM Disk when using the SOTA 286I in the 286 Mode?

Steven, I don't know what kind of difficulty you're having, but you have to "wake up" the Amiga's RAM disk before you can access it through the Bridgeboard. A CLI command like DIR RAM: is all it takes. Marion CROSSINGS Newsletter for the Bridgeboard

My specific problem is related to the operating of the SOTA 286I accelerator in the 80286 mode. When I'm in this mode, the JLINK function fails to open a path to the RAM: disk. I do not have this problem when I'm in the 8088 mode. I think this has something to do with the Bridgeboard setup utility. Any ideas?

Steven, No real ideas. But have you checked that the RAM: disk is "awake" before you try JLINK? How do you like the SOTA 286i otherwise? Marion CROSSINGS Newsletter for the Bridgeboard

Yes, the RAM disk is "awakened" during the startup-sequence. I like the SOTA 286i alot. The speed is comparable to a PC with the exception of DISK access (hard disks). I use the board's speed with Schematic Capture packages and Spread Sheets. My full system is composed of Amiga 2000, GVP Series II Hard Disk controller, 50 Meg Hard Drive (split 36/10: Amiga/Bridgeboard), CBM 2 Meg Ram Expansion, Super VGA Monitor, 1084 Monitor, IBM bus internal modem amd the SOTA 286i. I like the SOTA 286i since it provide me with comparable speed as with my PS/2 Model 50 at work, without having to buy another machine. Best of all (of course) was the price as compared to the cost of a A20286 board.

What about 386 boards with an XT BB?

I've heard that the SOTA 386i board works with the exception of the Microsoft Mouse emulator in the Janus 2.0 Software. It's also about twice the price ($480 discount). I'm not sure that the 386 upgrade is worth it unless you expect to do alot of processor intensive work without disk access involvement since the Hard Disk seems to slow things down. The makers of this board do advertise a line of compatible add-ons that by-pass the bus but I haven't seeen them sold yet.
