#SupraFAX & 9600 Whap!

Hi- I'm having trouble setting up my SupraFAX .32bis modem to get a reliable connection on CI$ with Whap (1.9H) at 9600bps. Every setting I try seems to give me nothing but garbage – if it connects at all! (I've had it hang up on me LOTS! ^_^) Has anyone gotten a reliable 9600 connection using Whap and a SupraFAX modem? I'd appreciate some help on this. Len Lekx [73300,723]

While I haven't tried it myself (with WHAP, I mean) , you should try adding the following to your modem initialization string: . AT&F2 Steve

Steve- I tried that – the modem keeps wanting to do a 14.4K connection… when it doesn't, it hangs up. I'm using AT&F0 at the moment – because it disables error correction. Len Lekx [73300,723]

Len, I have a supraRAX .32bis and Whap 1.9H and run CIS flawless at 9600 baud. 1st , be sure you have a 9600 phone number. I use the initilization string of AT&F2M0S0=0. Next, go into your drawer where WHAP is located and find the file T9600. Delete this file. Now log onto CIS. It will completely reset you setting at CIS when it 1st logs on and you should be then going and getting messages without any problems. At least use the setup string of AT&F2. Len, Just had to make sure! <grin> If the file(s) exist, delete T2400 and T9600. Set the Link Speed gadget to 19200 and try it again.

Steve- I think I've got it! (^_^) I had to disable the 14.4K connection attempt by setting S37 in such a way that it attempts to connect at 9600. Then I added AT N0 to my init string to tell the modem to use the S37 setting. It seems to work – I've gotten a consistent connection 3 times at 9600 so far. (^_^) (Next, I'll test it with the link speed set at 19200.) Len Lekx [73300,723]

Well, I seem to have no problems at all — and I'm using the AT&F2 settings. You may have a marginal connection with the modem on the other end. You may want to try changing your dial string to "AT S37=9 DTxxx-xxxx" this will force the modem to connect at 9600 or lower. This sometimes helps when the connection is a little off. It also used to be the only way you could get on Supra's bbs. Brian – via Whap!

Brian- I have indeed set the S37=9 – I stored it in NVRAM. What I found I had to do was disable v.32bis handshaking using S110=0. It now works A-OK. Len Lekx [73300,723]
