I have been using transparency falloff on a testtube I have created but have the following problem. Transparency FO seems to be measured from the overall dimensions of the object so on my tall testtube I got the desired effect left-to-right but have a "whole" in the middle from the top-to-bottom aspect of the fall off. I _want_ only horizontal FO. I can think of several somewhat involved schemes to apply materials with successively more transparency to selection sets of faces running certically (oops, vertically) along the object. Can anyone think of a better (read easier and less time consuming) way? – Chris Barnes PS. Anyone else feel like everyone's gone to an office party while you're still at work?…

Chris: I don't have an answer for you (yet…) but I have a similar problem trying to do a model with two colored solutions diffusing into each other. I got a suggestion to use an animated texture map but I haven't worked out a map that I like yet. Chris P.S. Yup! I have a note on my calendar this week "SIGGRAPH in Chicago" and under it "Chris in Cleveland"…

I got the same suggestion from Gary (as you probably read) re: animated mapping. I created the appropriate opacity maps today and am going to render them tonight. I can see now that animated mapping solves a _lot_ of those problems about how tomake something look real without having to actually model the known universe. Let me know how your blended texture maps turn out. That will definitely be a technique I'll need. – Chris

Chris: I'll keep working on the animated texture maps and let you know how they work out. An opacity map would be fine for one material diffusing into another, but I need two materials diffusing into a third. Chris

Thanks: I'll play with it this weekend. Chris
