Well, it is soon time for the first monday in August. To us Canadians that
means a LONG WEEKEND!!

Gee, I should be able to take Canadian holidays down here. Instead of
'religious observance' i could say i need them for 'cultural observance'! I
missed both Canada Day and my first July 4 while at WOC. I think I'm
getting ripped in the holiday dept.
Plus americans have less holidays than canadians to start with. Nothing
like a good August bank holiday or a Jean Baptiste day.
Michael
Michael,
Today is Simcoe Day – here in Ontario at least. I've been wondering if it
has other names in other provinces.
Malcolm
In B.C. it was B.C. day, now that's a real original name! I have that one
etched in memory because I was flying from Vancouver to St. Louis that day
in 1990. I said 'work' instead of 'business' by mistake when going thru US
immigration in Vancouver. I got shunted aside because I didn't have a work
visa. I tried to explain that I wasn't going to work, just to meet. Didn't
do me any good. Tried to call the consulate, but they were closed since it
was "B.C. Day." (They probably closed for Canadian and American holidays.)
Anyway, I finally got out of Vancouver the next day. The deputy consulate
gave me good advice. "just forget it and laugh about it later, and when you
go through tomorrow, say you're going for pleasure!"
Mike
Mike,
A speaker at a conference that I was involved with told another speaker
who'd been hassled at the border that he should say, "I'm going to visit
friends."
Malcolm
I did that after that incident. I suddenly had a relationship here. 😉
When I went to Sydney for the WOC show, the guy asked me what I was there
for. I said a trade show. He asked "not the Amiga show by any chance?" I
got through very quickly. 😉
Michael
Mike,
What about all those presidents? You must have a few extra holidays because
of them?
GEE! I always thought the states had more holidays then Canada! Oh well,
just another great reason to live above the 49th parallel!
:0 O'Canada…

They probably will make me take a test on the presidents to see if I
qualify for the holidays.
I had to subscribe to macleans in order to get some Canadian news down
here. The local paper only mentions Canada when they talk about tariffs on
American beer. I couldn't believe it. I was actually beginning to miss the
squabbling over the constitution.
Mike
"I was actually beginning to miss the squabbling over the constitution."
In the States, our politicans don't have that problem. They just ignore
it.
Michael
…..on AutoPilot
They don't ignor it, they write provisions that exempt them from the
provisions. That way, as long as they are in office, they can do what
ever they want!

Philip,
Now for the Olympic version: O Cana
