I just recently bought Quarterback (version 5.01, and applied the patch to 5.02). Last week I had a power failure while optimising my HD, leaving it a bit of a mess, and then had major problems with the restore. My system consists of a 2000 with 68030, 8 megs of memory and a Maxtor LXT200 drive, running under 2.04. I backup to a Syquest 40 meg cartridge system. When I attempted to restore from my backup, made just before the optimisation, I had major problem. QB would freeze at around avery 4 megabytes. As the freeze up occured in the same place everytime I assume it had to be a backup problem rather than a restore problem. Eventually , by a process of restoring up to the freeze point, resetting (and often having to fix validation problems on the disk), and restoring from after the problem file, I managed to recover most of my files, though some where lost for good. Doing a test of the backup indicated no problems. As a test, I backed up the drive again, and tried restoring it into spare space on the drive. Same result, approximately every 4 megs, QB would freeze. For the time being, I'm now backing the HD up by writing 42 meg files BUs to the syquest, and all appears to work correctly in this mode. Also another problem. I've used earlier versions of Quarterback on a system at work, again with a Syquest as the destination, and it did not overwrite the RDB, as V5 does. Is it possible to leave the RDB alone, as (using a GVP SCSI board) it takes the system considerable time to mount if it doesn't find the `Last Drive' flag on a device ? Oh and one more thing, Thanks for making the update patches readily available, both here and on Fido networks, but could you include a doc file explaining what the patch corrects ?
