Hi. Just a query regarding your Kitchen program, available here in
Australia. My brother is a Carpenter/Builder and has purchased Kitchen to
give him a professional edge with his quotes. I am assisting him to get
up and running.
The problem in Australia is that, despite Kitchen being available in an
'Australianised' version, our dimensions for 'standard' items vary (for
example, sink sizes). Thus the program as supplied may be useless for
accurate representation (in Australia); if true, this would be sad as it
has excellent print quality and excellent scaling accuracy.
1. The *.cmp files are 'library' drawings of items …. is it possible to
create new (or to modify existing) 'library' drawings please?
2. Are 'library' drawings stored in a standard format (for example, gif,
pic etc)?
3. Are extra 'library' drawings available on Compuserve?
4. Are updated drivers (maintenance releases) or other files available?

You will get better results asking these questions on the ARETAIL forum
(Autodesk Retail Products). That forum is devoted to Generic CADD,
AutoSketch and the HOME series of which KITCHEN is a part. I'll remind
Scott (the sysop of the ARETAIL forum) that this message is here so you
should get some sort of an answer.
I don't think you are going to like my answers.
First of all, it was my impression that when the programs were translated
for metric use, that the symbols were also resized for standard sizes used
in the UK and Australia. You might want to take this up with Autodesk UK
if you think some of the symbols are the wrong size for what is typically
available in your area.
Now on to your questions:
1. Yes the components (symbols) can be modified. But only if you happen
to have Generic CADD.
2. Yes the symbols are stored in a "standard" format. Standard for OUR
software that is. The symbol format is CMP for Component, and this is a
standard used by Generic CADD and Generic 3D as well as all the products in
the HOME series.
3. No, what you get with the product is what there is.
4. Not at this time, but that does not mean that you won't see some in the
future.
If you need more than Kitchen has to offer, you should consider moving up
to Generic CADD. Here in the US we offer an Upgrade from any of the HOME
programs to CADD that is a pretty good deal. I don't happen to know if the
Australian office offers a similar upgrade.
Also, I'm sure by now that someone has told you that you really should
be asking questions about the HOME series programs in the ARETAIL forum.
