#GFA Basic

I want to buy a Basic programming Language for the Amiga. I currently own QuickBasic for the PC so I want a "QB-Like" environment. The better Basic, in my opinion, is GFA Basic, wich is also available in DOS and Windows version, as it should let me easily port my applications to Windows and DOS environments, as I need. But I can't find any ads in recent Amiga magazines. My question: Is it available in the U.S. ?? (I know it's from Germany) Is it Release 2 compatible ?? Are new versions planned ?? (I want to buy a product with a future, and support!) Any help will be appreciated, Fernando Cassia FC Video Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Fernando, I don't know about GFA Basic, but Hi-Soft Basic Professional V.2.0 will be released soon and I would recommend you get that. Dom Fontana

GFA Basic is no longer supported for the Amiga. It is also NOT QuickBasic or AmigaBasic compatible. The better choice would be HiSoft Basic Professional, however, support for it appears to be questionable. It is better than GFA and is stable, whereas GFA is quite flakey. HiSoft is compatible with QuickBasic 3.0 and AmigaBasic and it is a compiled basic. It has a built in editor, like GFA, and can run programs from memory as well as from disk. If you want a less compatible basic which is still fully supported, but isn't very compatible with "standard" basics like AmigaBasic, look at FBasic. It is a compiled basic, has a programming environment like HiSoft and GFA, though not a very good integrated editor/ compile combination. It is extremely fast, as fast as most C programs. Current version is 4.0 and it is sold by Delphi Noetics.

I see that someone has told you that GFA is still supported. I was under the wrong impression that it had sort of died. However, I would not recommend it from my extensive familiarity with it. I would still strongly recommend HiSoft Basic Professional or FBasic. If HiSoft is still supported and does come out with a new version, you would probably prefer it because of its compatibility with QuickBasic and AmigaBasic.
