#Fax software for Fax Mdm

I have a multitech 2400bps modem, with v.42bis and FAX, but I cannot find
amiga software to use it..
Any ideas?

Do you know if your fax modem requires CLASS 1 or CLASS 2 software?
Supra Corp is marketing GPFax for class 2 fax-modems. There is a demo in
the AmigaUser COMMUNICATIONS library of a program called AFax that is also
supposed to support CLASS 2 fax modems, though I've not been successful in
getting it to work. I believe that Denny Atkin said he got AFax to work
with his Supra fax-modem.

I'm expecting my PPI 14400 FXSA modem very soon. I believe you have the
same modem. Have you found any third-party fax software that will work with
it? Or do you just not use the send/receive fax capabilities of the modem?

I'm afraid I haven't found anything that will allow use of the fax
features of the PPI 14400 under AmigaDos yet. I do use the fax features of
Smith Mico's MacFax/QL2 under A-MAX, but Sending facsimiles will only work
with the Plus card due to the timing processes required.
I was hoping to have the dos version of QL2 running under CrossPC and
multitasking with AmigaDOS… but no joy yet, as CrossPC just hasn't been
stable enough for me… I can't even get PKZIP to work under CrossPC.
*sigh* It's just a matter of time I guess, until someone puts out the
right software.
Do let me know if you find something suitable.

Alan,
I presume you mean the FAX portion of the modem, since the rest of
the modem will work fine with the Amiga.
At this point in time, I know of no class I fax software for the
Amiga, there is some software that claims to be class II fax software, but
since class II isn't a set standard yet…that software more than likely
(although I don't know for sure) only works with the Supra Fax modem.

Hi Alan,
Having recently bought a Supra Fax modem, I purchased GPFax at the same
time. The program is written by GP software in Australia, but is marketed
by Supra to complement their modems. I've only had it a week, and haven't
had a chance to send any faxes yet, but the program *looks* very nice 🙂

I've been using the GPFax software too. It does seem to be quite
competent. The only feature I've found missing is to be able to poll
another fax machine for a message that was left in memory. It's not a
feature I would use very often, but I wanted to use it for a user group
demo I did a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, the company where we hold
our meetings changed their phone system to some screwy digital system, so I
couldn't even get a dial tone unless I had one of their fancy computer
terminal phones connected to it.
Kinda made for a lame demo, but I had no way to know about it earlier.

Some of the fancier fax machines have the polling feature. The ones we got
at work are the plain paper laser faxes. Since we get purchase orders sent
to us that must be maintained for 10 years, almost everything that came in
on the fax needed to be copied to get it off the slimy paper. It doesn't
take many copied pages to justify a 4000 dollar machine when you consider
we had some senior people wasting time at the copier.
To be honest, while I did need to learn about the GPFax software for the
user group demo I did, I still haven't read the manual to our machine at
work. About all I got done is to program the time, date company name, and
a few phone numbers. We never end up using the multiple send or delayed
send features.

Yeah, like ClickFAX for the Amiga. Polling out, & Polling in. Multiple
send…. etc. :^)

I have two-way polling on my Brother 500M fax machine together with
3/4-Megs of Ram and it's a great feature.
I see that the July issue of AC spoke very highly of ClickFAX. I remember
the first review I read when it was first released didn't speak too highly
of it and you sent the editors a letter. Do you feel some satisfaction now
with the AC praise?
