#AREXX woes…
7 messages in this thread
Hi,
I'm having a bit of trouble writing an AREXX program to interface
Imagemaster with ProPage, and have a fairly basic question. What appears
to be happening is that I can get PPage to pass the name of a bitmap file
to Imagemaster, which then loads it. The only problem i'm having is that
Imagemaster thinks that the bitmap file is called "bitmap" instead of
bitmap <notice the quotation marks… That causes my file not to be saved
and is currently screwing up the whole thing.
I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on how to get AREXX to strip leading and
trailing double quotes off of a va character at a time. And since I don't
know how long the filename is before i start, it doesn't seem to work to
set the position as a template, unless there's a way to set it as "end of
line minus one character"
Any takers on this one?
BTW, i've almost got the IM-PPage interface working; it actually works at
present if I manually save the image from ImageMaster; what i want it to do
is automatically save the same bitmap (or a new copy of it…) and
automatically exit via an F=Key. I'll probably be able to post what i've
managed to do in a week or two; looks like it'll be just as nice as the
current "HotLink" to ADPro 😉

Tim, You can use the strip() function with a third argument to indicate
what characters are to be stripped. For example,
say strip('++abc+','Both','+')
would strip the leading '+' signs from the string.

Tim, to pull things out of a quoted line, you might try this:
parse var incoming '"' outgoing '"';
This assumes that the variable INCOMING comtains this exact string:
"filename"
Then the output will be this exact string (in the variable OUTGOING)
filename
That should do it.

Ben,
Thanks; i'm playing around with that and also the strip() command WHawes
mentioned, i'll see what happens.
I've got a little macro that's not currently working; looks like i'll have
to get it to do the following things:
1) rename the buffer from "dir:imagewhatever" to dir:imagewhatever
2) save that buffer (i've tried using the render command but it
doesn't work
the way I've tried to use it; even after changing the buffer name.
3) exit from IM (this works, i just used 'close' on the last line of
the macro.
Do you think that i need to have AREXX wait to 'close' IM for a specified
amount of time so that it can write to the new file? I was wondering if
that was perhaps why it doesn't want to save the modified image…maybe
i'll try the 'save' command instead…..
If i get a bit further along, i'll post the trimmings on your BBS; if it
ever gets FINISHED, i'll post it here 😉

No – Imagemaster will NOT quit if a file is not yet saved; you can issue
CLOSE pretty much right after IM begins the actual save.

Tim, You don't know the humor in your question. Normally, with
Arexx, a programmer would have to add quotation marks to get a program to
work. I have spent hours trouble shooting a script only to find another
pair of quotes solved the problem. Triple quoting is not that remote an
idea.

tom,
i was actually making light of the quoting problem, having read about a
zillion comments on the subject; just haven't played around with it myself
😉
but thanks for the advice; i'll 'have' to "''"keep quoting"''" until i get
it right, eh? *grin*
