Michael, I see by the added title to your name that congratulations are in order! So… CONGRATULATIONS on becoming a SYSOP for the Amiga Forums! When did this happen?! You have now entered into those hallowed halls of CISdom, your words of wisdom will now ring with even more authority, and exactness. [grin] So pray tell me, what wonders hath your eyes beheld beyond those doors no mere mortal CIS member can enter? Alas, I know what you'll say already, the incantation that brings many of us to lower our heads and say silent prayer, "non-disclosure agreement" [grin] Just the same Congratulations on your appointment. Chris

Thanks Chris… The truth be known, it's kinda like if you hang around long enough, they hand you a broom, give you a key, and say "turn out the lights nad lock up when you leave". <g> // Michael \X/ …on AutoPilot

d/SYSOP 75505,1757 (X) Michael, Well that's great, you know what's said about a new broom! It might sweep clean, but only gets the edges as close as the operator who uses it! Naw, that ain't it… [grin] chris

Nah; I've been around since 85; of course, they don't want to encourage me to say too much here! 🙂 Ron

I suspect your fellow sysops! 🙂 Basically, I tend to be the resident pain in the butt from time to time, though a lot less now that I'm married. Ron

Ron, Nah — speak out. I seldomly (fully) agree with you but it makes for interesting discussions. You've been too quiet lately. -sja

Now Steve, don't tempt me! 🙂 Besides, my wife hardly lets me on any more! Ron

Thanks for the kind words John. Beleive me, no one wants AP released more than the beta testers! The author, however, is a very stubborn perfectionist and wants the version 1.0 release to be as trouble free as possible…. we keep telling him that flawlessnes need not be achieved until version 1.1 <g> // Michael \X/ …on AutoPilot

"Stubborn perfectionist"? Boy, they really make you clean up your language when you become a SYSOP 🙂 Just kidding Steve… Honest! –Paul Still on AutoPilot
#68023From: Steve AhlstromAug 31, 1992 2:22 PM
Paul, Yep, I could use some more descriptive words to describe myself — "stubborn perfectionist" is too complementary and too, uh, polite. -sja

I'll work on it. // Michael \X/ …on AutoPilot

Steve, You'll be spoiling the reputations of thousands of software developers in releasing a clean 1.0 version of code. I suppose being a "stubborn perfectionist" is like being your own pain in the butt? 🙂 *** jd

Ya know, with all the hype about AutoPilot, I've seriously considered not releasing it cuz it'll never meet expectations even it if was the be all and end all of all time (it's not). -sja
#68039From: Christopher TolmieAug 31, 1992 3:37 PM
Well Steve, in that case, I guess I'll just have to change my Whap! signature to say "On Autopilot" and quit anticipating. [drool] Chris
#68074From: Mark D. ManesAug 31, 1992 8:46 PM
Chris, I am hoping that I can have a Whap! compatibility mode so that I might still use "Whapity Whap! Whap! .." in my signature… Sigh, I guess this is progress! 🙂 -mark= – whappity whap whap… whap whap!!
#68089From: Christopher TolmieAug 31, 1992 9:59 PM
Mark, I don't see why you can't have your signature like you use now. It is apparent that the autopilot testers have signature files they are using now. All those On AutoPilot sigs after the name…you don't think they're manually hand typing them now do you? [grin] Chris
#68119From: Michael GerardAug 31, 1992 11:54 PM
Chris: AP supports separate signature files (or 'tags') for every forum you visit, as well as CMAIL and a DEFAULT signature. // Michael \X/ …on AutoPilot

Michael, I want to congratulate you on your recent promotion. I have watched you in the various forums and you have been very helpful to a great number of people. Questions that I thought I could answer; I find that you have already answered–in a way that I thought better than what I could have expressed. So, my hat is off to you sir! Congratulations! -mark= – whappity whap whap… whap whap!!
#68115From: Michael GerardAug 31, 1992 11:54 PM
Mark: Thanks very much for the kind words, but I must say that 'promotion' isn't a word I would use to describe sysoping. I view it more like being drafted in to volunteer work… work I really enjoy, and from which I derive satisfaction. And now, more than ever, I have to ask that YOU make sure to correct me when I give advise to new users that is incorrect. I feel as if now I'm actually going to have 'think twice' before posting a response to a question. Your help here is greatly appreciated… and I see that participation as no different from my own, or Chris' or any other user who steps up to the message base to ask or answer a question. // Michael \X/ …on AutoPilot
