#Syquest problems
3 messages in this thread
I have just installed a Syquest 88meg which I acquired from another Amiga user
in this forum. I am having problems with writing to it and then reading what I
wrote. GIF files which were copied to it couldn't be displayed by anyone of
several programs (both Amiga and PC). This was true even when I copied the GIFs
back onto another medium. When I copied an ASCII text file onto the Syquest
most of the file (the first 2/3 or more) was missing. Finally when I tried to
format another disk that was already formatted as an Amiga disk everything went
well until the very end when I got a "Not a DOS disk" message. The system
refuses to even come up when I have an unformatted disk in the drive.
I have checked by addresses (Syquest, CDROM and one HD). All are OK. They are
4, 5 and 6 respectively. The Syquest is the last physical device on the
external chain and is terminated. It does share an external case with the
CDROM.
Is there something I should do software-wise? Please help!!
Thanks.
Bill
Bill,
What SCSI controller are you using? I was using the SyQuest with my
3000T, so I couldn't comment on performance on other controllers, but I
have heard that some older SCSI controllers dont like removable media
drives.

Terry,
I am using a C= 2091 which is supposed to work with it..so sez the book. I am
waiting for some drivers for my PC SCSI card which I hope will arrive tomorrow
or Tuesday. Then I can see if I have an Amiga specific problem or a SCSI setup
problem.
Interestingly, the system does recognize diskchanges..it just doesn't like any
disks. <g>
What was the setting you suggested on the phone regarding an emmpty drive? I
lost my note about it. I have downloaded a couple of things from here such as
LateSCSImount (?) and SCSIMount. Trouble is..I am more confused than ever after
having read the docs.
Thanks, by the way, for your help.
Bill
