Gee….
I don't suppose there is any chance that the Amiga could be run from
this thing is there? Would do wonders for other programs. 😉

My guess is that the screamer will kill the toaster. There will undoubtably be
Mac and MS-Dos platform applications that will allow the Screamer to be their
rendering engine. Not to mention any application run on a mainframe or
supercomputer now. Let's face it — to be able to buy a machine which runs
rings aroung the Cray I for under 10 K? We are begining to witness another
paradigm shift here. I don't think that NewTek alone is pulling this off.
Someone else is involved here such as …SGI or NEC or but probably not…CBM.
A lot of people are going to get crunched by this product and a select few will
rise to an even higher plateau than we've seen yet.

I must disagree. From all of the details I could see, only LightWave will
be utilizing the Screamer. Also, the screamer requires the Toaster and
A4000 to operate with LightWave.
However, ultimately, I'd sooner spend my time utilizing what is and not
bother speculating on what might possibly happen.
With the capability of the A4000 itself, adapting the Screamer to either
Mac or PC would be several steps backwards in functionality.
Also, CBM was rumoured to be working on a RISC-based Amiga for some time
now. The rumour has yet to be absolutely quashed.

If this incredible piece of hardware is available, There will undoubtably be
LOADS of developers who want to utilize SuperComputer processing power for
their Hardware & software. It would be in NewTek's best interest to allow the
Screamer to be used by ALL platforms. The Screamer, if it uses the Toaster and
Amiga as a kind of 'Dongle' (which it would be) would be vastly under-utilizing
its potential. If it is meerly a rendering engine, connected to the Toaster
Workstation by some type of network connection accepting data to be processed,
wouldn't other platforms be able to supply that same raw data? What would save
the Amiga market here would be a more integrated relationship whereby the
Screamer acts as a Toaster 'Accelerator' and inherently relies on the Amiga
and/or Toaster in much the same way the Toaster is tied into the Amiga
Hardware.
Things are really starting to get interesting.

I think NewTek will work it this way: Continue to develop the capabilities
of the Screamer within the Amiga/Toaster/Toasterlink(Mac) sphere, and
leave it to 3rd parties to tap into the Screamer the same way that they
left FrameStore image manipulation to be figured out by 3rd parties.
Ultimately, it would be sheer folly for any of us to hazard a guess at
what the top secret NewTek has in store for the users. To better
understand what the heads of NewTek feel about the future of NewTek and
computers in general, you should read the August issue of Video Toaster
User. It has an interview with Jim Jenison and Paul Montgomery.
Even by releasing what they do of the Screamer, NewTek would have to see
that the market would sustain the product before even considering
expanding it to other platforms. Just saying it would do well doesn't make
it so. The Screamer is VERY promising, but like anything, it's also a
gamble. Remember, there was a multi-processor card for the Amiga 2000 a
few years ago and Atari had a multi-processor machine. Both died quickly.
I agree, however, that things are definitely starting to get interesting!

Howdy John, Someone on Amiga_Video Fidonet Echo claiming to be Mark
Randall( tho I saw no reason not to believe he is who he says he is) of
Newtek mentioned that MULTIPLE SCREAMERS can be connected to a Single
Toaster equipped machine to REALLY make things interesting Speed Wise. Any

Could you give us some info that was given out at the NewTek party?
Some of us couldn't make it.
What exactly are the video ins and outs for? If this is `just' a
accelerator for LW then I don't see the need for this. Could this be
for another feature outside of LW?
Well, Not a lot of info was given out at the NewTek party. There is
going to be an article about the Screamer in the first issue of the
LightWave NewsLetter, due out about the end August/beg September. It
will go out with each VTU subscription for the first time (must
subscribe to it after that…).
Yea I'd love to have the SCREAMER also be able to render my Morphs from
Imagemaster too. Hope your listening NewTek.

Why yes, its just an Amiga 6000 with a SCREAMER sticker on it.
And Oooooo wait until you see the new Kinki, oops I mean Kiki
effects (do yah think she has a double stand in for those <g>).
