Discs

It seems that all of the discs I find in the stores now are either for 1.2 meg
or 2 meg. Can I use these discs with my 2000?
Diane-
If you have at least the meg they require AND they're NOT AGA only, they
should work.
Look for a software rental near you and inquire about the programs you
wish to purchase. If they're friendly they'll inform whether or not given
programs will run with your configuration. Some stores apply the rental
price toward purchase. Bear in mind that, around here at least, these are
not the cheapest place to buy. If they are helpful, etc., then they are
worth supporting. I have rented many pieces of software and have saved
quite a bit by weeding out junk via the 'try before you buy' method.
Hope this helps.
P.S. No, I don't own or work at a software rental establishment.

If you are talking about blank disks, the 1.2 should work fine. In theory
the media used for the 2 meg disks is not as compatable with the Amiga
low-density drives and might give you more errors. Just look for the 2D
(stands for double-density) disks (double sided too, of course) and you
should be fine.

Diane,
Are you talking about the requirements for running a program, or the
storage capacity of the actual floppy disks themselves?
If you're talking about the floppies…while yes, you can use the HD
disks (1.44 Meg in an IBM machine)…you'd be wasting your money. Most places
I've seen carry both the HD disks and the DD disks (760K in an IBM).
The DD disks are what you really want. The 2.88 Meg disks probably
won't work right…but I don't know that for sure.
If you're talking the memory requirements of a program….that's true,
since the Amiga is a multi-tasking machine…it's not at all unusual for a
program to require higher amounts of memory…it may have to "live" with some
other program also running. That, plus the fact that most programs try to do
as much as they can…thus higher memory requirements.
