There is a complete description of the DXF file format in every set of AutoCAD
documentation. There is also a file in section 1 of the Autodesk AutoCAD forum.
The DXF file varies slightly for each release of AutoCAD. Do you know which
release you need to match ???

I would like to be able to convert a DXF formatted file to BMP PCX TIF GIF etc
to enable faxing From Windows with Winfax 3.0. Looking through Lib 10 I did
not see any converter to go "that way". Did I miss one and/or would you
recommend one here on CI$ that I could use?

There ain't no converters on the ACAD forum because AutoCAD itself will do
this. In fact Release 12 will output those file formats directly from the DWG
file without the DXF intermediate step.
Barring the use of AutoCAD Release 12, you can either check out the Graphics
Support forums or look at a commercial product like HI-JACK.
