Should be but you have writing to disk which is not done at the speed of the processor. By having two machines you split this time.

Bill, writing to disk is generally not a large part of rendering unless you are paging, in which case you'd need more ram because you are not making best use of your processor's fpu performance.

That depends if your writeout 24Bit or not each immage or shot in an animation is written to disk which can be time consuming. Dont get me wrong I'd love to have a few Pentiums but unless the software is compiled for the dual pipelines in the processor your really not taking abvantage of the dual FPU's. Quite a shame to because by recompiling the code the 486 will see improvments too! Bill Scott 72002,313

Bill, for me at least typical rendering times are 3 to 20 minutes per frame and the saving to disk time seems to be about 3 – 5 seconds. This doesn't strike me as being time consuming in the larger scheme of things. BTW, I'm not convince the Pentium is a great bargain yet, but there are a lot of things to figure in (RAM, peripherals etc.

Bill, I don't know how render times could be speed up with the Pentium compiled version of 3ds, but with the plain 2.0, you get 3 to 4 times faster. Ana
