I am unable to configure Release 3.0 to run on my new Pentium system using the drivers shipped with the product, is there a fix? Martin G. Cameron Peregrine Software

Martin, I'm sure I speak for several here on the forum when I say that we would LOVE to help you, but you have to give us more info!!! What TYPE of graphics card? What type of BUS? What type of MACHINE for that matter? Fill in the blanks and we will see if we can help you! Chuck

The Vibrant folks are working on a new VIB3DS.VLM that will include Viper PCI support. We're hoping that it'll be available in early February. For now, you'll have to use the VESA interface for that card.

Thanks Gary Chuck, I wish I COULD say what type of Motherboard etc., but I didn't buy the machine, the company I work for did and the documentation is, in a word, SPARSE The Model Number on the Motherboard is PCI/I-P5MP3 with a SCSI controller built onto the board that is giving me no end of trouble, with an almost unrecognizable connector on the back. The manual is printed on RECYCLED PAPER (I feel frustrated but environmentally correct). The Card is, of course, a ViperPCI caveat emptor comes to mind in this case Martin

Never fear… I'm sure the Vibrant folks will come through with PCI Viper drivers pretty soon. Just use VESA for now, and you'll be flying sometime in Feb. Take care,

Gus: You wouldn't happen to know how I could connect an old NEC CDR-77 CD-ROM drive to my SCSI-II controller? Don't know if its even feasible. I know the drive is painfully slow but I want to see what's on the 3ds CD-ROM. I got the dirve for free and I haven't really investigated what it'll take to get operating. I thought I'd ask the master first.

You got me. I don't know if the CDR-77 is a SCSI device. I know the new models are (CDR-83/84). If it is a SCSI device, it should be just a matter of plug and play (provided you load the appropriate drivers). If it's some other type of interface (proprietary or otherwise), you won't be able to hook it up. I still have my first CDROM (a Denon I payed $750 in 89 – speed demon at 60k/s!) and it works just fine using newer SCSI controllers. I don't know what SCSI controller you have. You should load at least two drivers for it to work with CDROM. A CDROM SCSI driver itself (SCSICD.SYS or something worded similarly) and later (from the Autoexec) a MSCDEX.EXE driver.

I just bought a SCSI-II to Centronics converter plug at MicroCenter. A good computer store should have something similar (assuming the NEC uses the Centronics interface). LAM

I think you've hit on exactly what I need. I checked and re-checked CompUSA and they don't have this converter plug. Could you provide me with the brand name and model #. I'll have them special order it for me. Thanks.
