Bob: What you are saying is no doubt correct however that is NOT how the command is described. The commands description is that it sends the appropriate cntrl character 'as though it were typed to the task from the keyboard.' That being the case, I still stand with the statement that I have never seen it work. 73, bill

Bill, The command description is misleading, then. When you 'type a cntrl-c' to the program, console.device (I think) detects that and generates a signal that is sent to the process. If my program is not listening for that signal, then I never know about it. If my program is listening for keyboard events, I will get a keyboard event for the cntrl-c, but not for the 'break signal'. The break command generates the break signal for the process, but not the keyboard event. There is a (subtle) difference. ..Bob

Bill, I woul dhate to see you go through life not having seen BREAK work, so here's a way to see it in action. Open a NEWCLI TYPE a file (make it a long one) Click in the original CLI Type STATUS FULL note the CLI number of the TYP task. Type BREAK n c (Where n is the task number. Observe the break in the new CLI Regards, Larry.

Larry: Thanks, I will give that a try in a little while (my A2K is apart for testing with the SCSI drive again). 73, bill

Bill, That is a somewhat misleading statement in the AmigaDOS manual. Note the description says that it sets the ATTENTION flag(s), which in most cases is the same as clicking on the CLI and entering the keystroke yourself. However, it's the CLI that gets the BREAK signal and the program will/won't intrepret it depending on whether it reads the ATTENTION flags or not. Don

Don: Understand. I think that the issue was clouded even more by the way the command is presented in the Sheldon's DOS Reference Guide. I usually use that since it is a convenient sized book. Speaking of Sheldon, has anyone seen or heard from him in the last year or so? Seems like I have not seen him on CIS since March. 73, bill
