Sorry John, I have to agree with Bill STickney on this one. I gave up
my Diaquest because I wanted my decks to serve more than JUST
ANIMATION. I think most professionals will agree that there IS more
uses that you can put a VTR to. As an animator, I find the consistant
need to EDIT animation sequences together. There are also times that
I need to synchronize 2 or more machines together. I for one vote for
the versatility that V-LAN affords. Software drivers and even
controllers like Diaquest just don't cut it.
Bill – I can appreciate what your saying and if Bill Stickney had
promoted the merits of the V-LAN, I for one would have felt that his
interest was more than partisan. But to claim that V-LAN is used more
than all the other controllers combined, I believe to be patently
false. Since I didn't mention V-LAN as an option apparently he took
offense. Well there are other options as well. If he had read the
thread he would have understood better the requirements sought.
Vernon doesn't have a tape-deck, and my intent was to give him an
easily integrated controller whereby he could access on a rental
basis a broad variety without alot of hassle. I stand by my
recommendation, though I understand that people in production
environments need the ability to be able to switch from on-line to
single frame recording and back, this is not what Vernon requires.
