I am just know learning UNIX as part of my graduate studies, and I am
wondering about Amiga Unix. Can anyone tell me the current status of it,
is it any good and should I think about using it.
I also have one question for those who have used the X-Windows emulator
from GFXBase. Will it work with a high speed modem or would that be too
slow even if it did work? Seems I cannot get an ethernet connection to my
office at this time.

Amiga UNIX is no longer supported by Commodore.
I've never used the X Window System Amiga port over a modem, but if it
contains a SLIP (serial line IP) driver I'm sure it will work. I've seen
this sort of thing working on a X terminal over a regular phone line, and
it was a bit slow, but usable.

If you can get it – it is a full implementation of SVR4
(not the absolute latest SVR4.2, but not far behind).
It contains TCP/IP, X-Windows (Open Look), full development system
for TCP/IP and X-Windows (Open Look).
The same functionality in software from SCO Unix cost about $5000.00
(development system, TCP/IP Run-Time and Development System,
and X-Windows Run-Time and Development System).
