HP4M Toner Problem

CIS to the rescue again!
Thanks for the message you left to John Faust re my toner problem. As you
suggested, I opened up the back of the machine and discovered that the
fuser arms, indeed, had not been pushed down. Obviously the fellow who
installed it overlooked that step!
I can't believe the reams of paper I've wasted (or the amount of toner)
trying to live with this problem. (I thought it was just characteristic of
the HP4M and was just about to give it up.)
The manual doesn't address this basic problem as a cause of smearing –
although it should.
What I should have done is go back over the installation step-by-step
months ago – or posted a message on CIS months ago.
Thanks a lot.

Nancy,
I'm glad to hear my suggestion worked for you! When in doubt give a
yell here on the Forum. The worst that will happen is a lack of response
if no one around has any ideas.
Next time you see those "experts" that installed it for you, suggest
that they are the material that Radio Shack assistant clerks are made of
<g>!

Roy, are trying to get her killed? "Thems fighting words!" Though, I
have to admit that I have encounted some pretty sharp people at Radio
Shack stores (even some of the employees <g>) occassionally, as a general
rule many of the customers know more about the company, the product and
the industry than RS sales folks.

Bill,
I still remember, as a callow youth walking into a Radio Shack store,
and asking a clerk about an LED (it was relatively new, but advertised in
their catalog at the time). The guy didn't have the faintest idea what I
was talking about. Any RS salesman that knows anything about their own
products is purely accidental <g>. I'm sure their are exceptions to the
rule, the same way that I'm sure that there are some government
bureaucrats that are worth their salaries/benefits <G>.

Boy, you are REALLY down on the Rad Shack people <g>

Nancy;
Absolutely! Roy is right. Particularly with something like the HP4M
where literally hundreds of message about what an outstanding printer it
is for the Amiga have been posted (almost continuously).
Anytime something doesn't seem right, it won't hurt to ask. You may not
get the answer or not like the answer you get but most of the time you
will get a solution.
