#OCR help??????????????

I could use any help or advice that anyone might have about OCR. I am going to
be buying a Golden Image hand scanner for my AMiga 2000. It is the one that
works with the parallel port.
I am being told that trying to do OCR with a hand scanner is a pain. I need
the names of some Ami software that does OCR, and the names of some PeeCee
software that will do OCR.
There is no way for me to buy a flatbed at this time, or get around using this
scanner to scan text.
Any help would be much appreciated,

I am aware of only one company that offers Amiga OCR software. I use
their full package (it allows you to work from IFF files) and it works
great for me! They also offer a "cut down" version which only works from
specific hand scanners (sorry don't know if the Golden Image is one of
them). Call MIGRAPH at 206-838-4677 and ask them about bundled packages
which include both scanner and OCR!

The only OCR software I have any experience of is Migraph OCR on the
Amiga. It comes in two versions, the Jr. version is fully functional and
reads directly from your scanner. The more expensive version will accept
either direct input from the scanner or will read an IFF file.
OCR with a hand scanner is a bit of a pain in the neck. The main problem
is scanning a column of text close to the spine of the book or magazine. I
don't know if a flatbed would be much better here though. The Migraph OCR
software is supposed to learn. It shows you any characters that it cannot
understand and you tell it what they are. I haven't noticed much
improvement so far but I probably just haven't been using it enough.

I got ahold of Migraph. I will definetly get the software from them.
I also can use my old, antiquated "Mimetics Frame Buffer" with a camcorder.
They might work.
