#Dynamic Motion Module
16 messages in this thread
Hello,
Someone asked me to post info about our new IPAS routine….
Dynamic Motion Module is a physics based KXP for 3D Studio. Once in the
keyframer, you simply call up our KXP and input data. For objects, you can set
mass, elasticity, acceleration, velocity, angular velocity, and drag. Global
factors of gravity and wind can be set as well.
Once the variables have been set, they may be applied to any or all of the
objects in the scene. Clicking on the Generate Scene button will calculate all
of the motion files. Objects can be either dynamic, or key framed, and
collisions may take place between them without problems. Key framed objects are
treated as though they have infinite mass.
The IPAS version of DMM has greater flexibility than our currently shipping
version for LightWave. For example, within IPAS, we could calculate collisions
and responses on an object as it morphed from one shape to another.
DMM uses a complex point-to-polygon collision detection process, so objects of
any shape may collide and react properly.
The product retails for $399.95 and will ship on or before October 1, 1994.
For more info please call me at 800-365-1002.

That was me Brent…thanks a lot for the info. I look foward to seeing the
program soon.

Sounds Fanatstic Brent!
Will we see some demo FLI's on the forum? (Hint Hint (G))
Glenn Melenhorst 4Di.
Glenn,
We will likely upload samples in the near future. They may end up being just
the objects and motion paths leaving the rendering to you. Thanks for your
interest.
Brent
Brent, Can't wait. Your stuff sounds really exciting! Glenn 4Di.
Sounds excellent Brent. Thanks for the posting.

Great work. I can hardly imagine what'll be availble for 3DS by next year's
SIG.
Wow. Sounds great. And this ties into what someone said about the XAOS IPAS.
Here is this complex dynamics package that's $495, while XAOS's paint thingy is
$995 — it's like Positron is coming from the Lightwave market (which, from a
cost standpoint is relatively close to the 3DS market) while XAOS is still
thinking like an SGI market.
Dave
Although XAOS plug in will list for $995, it'll be sold through dealers, so I
would expect some sort of "street" pricing on it.

In a somewhat related development, NewTek's press releases for Siggraph
mentioned that they've acquired a minority share in Xaos Tools, Inc. (Since
Xaos Tools is privately held, and given the nature of the word "minority," of
course, we can discern nothing else from this press release.)
>>NewTek/XAOS<<
No kidding? That's pretty wild news. I'd love to know more…
John Tissavary (LUNA cie)
Actually, after a little digging, I learned that this buy-in actually took
place more than a year ago. (Back when NewTek had more cash. 🙂 I always
wondered why the principals of Xaos always showed up for the NewTek holiday
parties…
What a trip. This buisness gets pretty incestuous…

Dave,
Although we would be happy to accept a check for $495, the actual retail price
is $399.95.
Brent
And here I was, trying to get you MORE money, but make it look like
LESS by comparing you to XAOS, and you go and spoil it!<g> Don't say
I never tried to do anything for you! (Actually, after two people
had purchased it at my quoted $495 price, you could have sent ME a
copy free!<g>) (of course, the fact that it's really going to be $399
just makes my point even clearer!)
Hi Brent,
Do you happen to have a demo available? PLease let me know.
Thank you.
