#Weird file? Help?

I'm uploading a mesh into the meshes forum area. The geometry is of a simple
extruded object. It's basicly an square shaft with a bevel. The "weirdness"
comes when it's rendered. For some reason the edge between two sides doesn't
appear. It appears to be a rounded edge with straight base and top. Sorta M.C
esherish.
I have since remade the geometry to work, but curious why it's doing what it's
doing. Any thoughts?

Although I haven't DL'ed the mesh, Dave, have you tried investigating Smoothing
Groups issues? Refer to the Reference Manual pages 7-127 thru 7-134 for
explanations regarding the Surface/Smoothing commands. Perhaps a simple
Surface/Smoothing/Object/Auto Smooth will fix your problem.

I solved my problem by just recreating the model. I was more interested in WHY
it was doing what it is. However, I will try that and see if it solves the
problem. That will create some clues.

See Alan's message on smoothing. If this is a lofted object, it's probably a
simply matter of turning off smoothing (either Length, Width, or both) in the
Object Lofting Controls dialog box. See page 6-98 of the Reference Manual. For
that matter, take a good look through pages 6-95 to the end of chapter 6. The
Objects/Make command is the last in the command column, so it's described at
the end of the chapter — but it contains the controls that ultimately
determine how your lofted object will look. Here's a case where the end of a
chapter is more important than the earlier parts.

You're right the problem was with the smoothing. Sure did act funny. Sorry my
upload was lost, but I'm sure you've seen the likes of it.
