Do you know of a GOOD printer driver for the Laserjet IIIP? One that
allows access to the printers internals fonts, and enhanced graphics
settings? The Commodore laserjet driver is very primitive. Is it possible
to write a text script that would instruct the printer to turn on its
enhanced graphics modes? Thanks for your time and expertise!!
Actually, I'm not the right person on this subject matter, since I've been
having problems getting printer drivers to work with my new HP4mp. There are
several people in this SIG who know a lot about printer drivers–hopefully
they'll see your message to me. If no one answers, repost it, but addressed to
all.

You might buy my Studio printer software wich includes a Laserjet PCL
driver. Yes, it even supports the mode 5 compression (wich is the fast
runtime-compression used by the IIIP to safe memory) I doubt you can find
a better Laserjet driver. When it comes to internal fonts, yes you can
select them as the standard driver comes with a custom external
preferences program. However, selecting internal fonts requires you to
know how to deal with laserprinters internal best-fit font selection
scheme (ie. you can select a proportional font while still being in mono
spaced mode… and such).
A new version of the Studio software will be hopefully be released in
several weeks.
