If anyone out there is using a Dataflyer removable hard drive please
respond to this message. I'm having a small problem that I'd like to ask
you about.

Andrew, I have a Syquest 3270, which I believe is used in some Dataflyer
units.

Well, here is my problem. I've installed my drive into my A4000 and it
works great. I have no problems with the drive itself. My problem is
with the program that came with it that is supposed to check the drive to
see if the cartridge has been removed or changed. The program is called
CheckDC.
According to the manual I am supposed to put that in my C: dir and put the
following command in my startup sequence, "Run >NIL C:CheckDC DH0:", DH0:
is the designator my the removable hard drive. Well, I've done that and
it fails to recognize when I remove the cartridge, so when I put a
different cartridge in the slot and try to access it I get a disk error.
Basically, I have to reboot when I want to swap cartridges.
I called Expansion Systems to get technical help and the guy who knows all
about that won't be back to next week.
Any ideas?

I'm getting into this thread late…but have you tried the DiskChange
command when inserting a new cartridge? I use it on my Syquest (on an A2500)
and it works just fine.

Hey! That does work, eventhough it leave the icon of the removed
cartridge on the WB and adds the new cartridge, it works. Thanks for the
tip.
I am still curious though, as to how to get that darn CheckDC to work
properly because it is suppose to do that automatically.

No idea on the CheckDC program.
As to leaving the ICON, typically, that only occurs when you have
something assigned to the disk you removed. If that's the case, you could try
a script file that removes the assignment, does the DiskChange and then
reassigns the assignment to the new cartridge (presuming that's what you want).
Not as convenient as having a program do it automatically, but far more
convenient than having to reboot to swap a cartridge.

It is a small amount of extra work, but I solved the problem in the
following way, on the same kind of setup. I made sure that there was no disk in
the Syquest on startup, then inserted a cart. and used SCSIMounter, which is a
PD program, to mount the Syquest. You will then get an icon which will go away
if you change carts. and run SCSIMounter again. A minor nuscance (sp), but it
only takes a few seconds.

George, I use SCSImounter on my 3000 / Syquest 3270, and have no problems
with the icon going away when removing a cartridge even when booting with
the drive and cartridge on. Ocassionally the icon doesn't show up,
probably because of spin-up delay, in which case I mount it manually with
SCSImounter.

Andrew, a way that works great manually is using the SCSImount command,
available in the AMIGAUSER library. You put it in the WBstartup directory
and invoke it after mounting a new disk. It works fine, with no icons
left on the desktop.

Hey guys,
where did you get your Dataflyers from and how much was shipping?
I live in the UK and am about to return my (second) GVP A1291 because it
doesn't work properly with either my HD or Streamer…
I'm over your side of the pond in Sept and could get one from a dealer in
Rochester if any of you know of one?

mistakenly thought they included a cartridge in the price – SURPRISE!).
Actually Computer Shopper had them for low $400, but I can't remember the
place. I'll see if I can scrounge it up at work next week.

I got mine for Select Solutions and I had really good service with them.
I paid $429 for a 105 Meg drive, SCSI controller, and 1 105 Meg cartridge.
I had them deliver UPS 2nd day so I paid something $13 for that.

Thanks for the info, however I'm looking for the "DataFlyer" SCSI
controller only, not the drives (can get them here trade as I'm in the
industry). Cannot seem to locate either a dealer willing to sell a
DataFlyer to someone in UK (will be over next month so that's not a major
problem) or the manufacturers!

Watch those b@$%@#&'s! They sold me a A2000, supposedly new, fully
warranteed etc. that first turned out to be a PAL version, had some blown
paths off the video connector, and then when I called to report the
problems, they didn't know me from adam. DKB fixed half the problem for
me and Bruce Robertson tipped in on the other half and I had to green-wire
to repair the blown motherboard paths to get it working with the Toaster.
Avoid Select Solutions like the plague!!!
