#Video Titler
20 messages in this thread
Hi everyone,
About a week ago I heard Aegis announce that there new video Character
Generator program was shipping. So far no one has mentioned it at all! Is the
Video Titler indeed shipping, or is it expected "any day now…". If anyone
out there has seen it, I'd be interested to know what you think!
-RSL-
I know it is definately shipping, and available.
Thanks! Have you heard any opinions about it?
-RSL-
Hi Roy! Video Titler _is_ shipping. Although I have not seen it, I have heard
some things about it. Mainly that is almost like The Director, but LESS
powerfull. And that unlike the Director, it uses MENU's as opposed to a script
language.
<Hope this help bring out VT users out of the woodwork!> 🙂

Thanks GreG!
Sounds somewhat dissapointing. Before its ship date I would
occassionally hear about all the great features it would contain. All about
rotating letters all over the place for real flashy title effects.
Oh well… I remeber hearing all those fantastic things about Diga!
(until it began to ship). Perhaps someone out there who bought it will be kind
enough to give their impressions of Video Titler!
-RSL-
Roy, don't make any judgements. I merely told you what I have been told. It
may be that Video Titler is great! But I'll have to see it first. No more
buying something without trying first! No matter *how* good it sounds!
GreG
You can generate rotating letters, ADO-style animations, a whole bunch of stuff
.. because VideoTitler has animation recording built into the program. Is
true!
Director is an excellent slide show program. Titler is a title editing and
creation program that supports Amiga fonts, Color fonts, and Polygon fonts
(unique to Titler). We ship Titler with VideoSeg which is a mouse driven
slide-show program. Scrolling is in the works for a future version of
VideoSeg, but it's not designed to be the best slide show program, just easy to
use. VideoTitler is a really powerfull titler capable of generating animations.
Good luck.
Like I said, all this sounds great! But then again, so did Videoscape 3D.
Vscape 3D left a lot of people flat. No really usefull object editor was
provided, rendering (pardon pun) Vscape useless to many. Now Aegis has decided
to fill this void with Modeler 3D. Rumor has it that Modeler 3D will sell for
$140. Now Vscape users can finally take Vscape off the shelf and use it…but
for a hefty price. This, coupled with the fact that when Vscape was first
announced (pre-announced) here, it sounded great! Can you map IFF pics on
objects?-we asked. No, BUT you can use any pic as a background or as a
foreground.-you said. Of course, you left out that it's colors were hard-wired
and there were only 11 of them! Animations & Objects are easily created you
said. Thats why other 3rd party developers have been working to convert
objects for use with Vscape….including AEGIS.
Same with Diga! As already noted by others on the forum, it did not live up
to the hype. Hopefully the new Diga! won't impose further on it's users
finances.
Video Titler has received much hype recently. With the above precedents,
it's difficult to expect what has been promised. I truly hope that Video
Titler actually does what it's been advertised to be able to do. I for one, as
well as many others would welcome it.
<Gee, hope that didn't come off as I _think_ it did! Oh well, fuel for the
fire! 🙂 >
Regards, GreG
P.S. I believe Deluxe Video Construction Set also has polygon fonts. Making
that not unique to Titler.
VideoTitler is our must succesfull product introduction on the Amiga yet. A
revision to VideoScape lets you define your own palettes. I've got a ton of
videos that folks are creating with VideoScape 3D. Many are quite incrediable.
The polygon fonts in Titler are rotatable and distortable. Titler also
supports a "true" overscan of up to 768 x 480, important if you are going to
Video.
Yes, Interchange by Syndesis has helped more people in creating objects for
Videoscape. That type of help should have been included upon release. A user
definable pallette is welcomed. But, is it still limited to 11 colors? What
about an upgrade to non-ray-traced HAM? Or Ray-traced for that matter?
Keep us informed about Modeler 3D, that should be worth a look, an expensive
one though. 🙂
GreG
More color types are being added. Ability to change palette being added. HAM
and halfbrite are also in the works for future revisions. Modeler also
interfaces to Draw (Plus) so you can pass a 2D object for extrusion or lathe
(even a curve fit 2D object!).
Bill, it's good to hear that all these things are in the works. In regards to
Modeler 3D, I was hoping of some "upgrade" for Vscape owners. But, enough of
the pipe dreams already.
In regards to all the recent flack that Aegis is getting, I don't think it's
unfounded. But, with time, hopefully everything will be rectified.
Best of luck, -GreG
I'll put the suggestion in….
I for one appreciate your bold honest commentary (and feel the same). I'd love
to see Titler be all its cracked up to be though. In any case did you hear
about the new Version of Silver just around the corner??? Its supposed to be
MUCH, MUCH faster yet, with the capability of over 100 objects, with any
reflectivity and specularity (read HIGH) and trace times under an hour. I'm
going to like that one…..Louis
Louis, thanks for you message. I am not trying to knock Aegis, merely give
them a push to get back on track.
Yes, I have been told by the programmer of Silver that faster rendering times
are around the corner…MUCH faster rendering times. Also, some new features.
One of which is the ability to use stencils. This means that you can go into
Dpaint, draw a Picture…with "holes" in it, IE: a Spiders Web, and then use
that in silver as an Object. You can then set it up to be reflective, glowing
etc. It will cast shadows and all. You could even map a stencil onto an
object! Now that has a LOT of potential! Will let you know after AmiEXPO how
it looks.
GreG
That sounds great!!!! The faster rendering times make my spider start to itch.
IN doing the project I described to you earlier I found a bug in the player for
lores ANIM's. I'm sending my disk to IMpulse today for Don to Debug the
problem. The anim should be fine and you can look forward to seeing the Phases
(of the moon) Anim soon…………………..Louis
Will be looking for it! -GreG
Id like to knpw a bit more about the new version of Videoscape….anything you
could offer???
Here is a list of future things being worked on for VideoScape 3D. Not all of
them will make the next revision, but alot will….
Hirerical motion
Loadable Palettes.
HAM
Half Brite
PAL support
Better message ports for deck controll.
RIFF style compression (IFF ANIM) with 40% more compression.
Transparency.
Multiple Light Sources
Remembers your settings between animation generation.
And much much more….
