#]3ds bug? disk related

Are you using an ADI with 3DS?
What you described sounds like a file handle isn't getting released. In DOS you
can only open so many files at once, and if you have a program that is opening
a file (even a temp file) and forgetting to close it, you'll use up all that's
available.
This will often give you the symptoms you've described. Once it happens there
isn't anything you can do but shut down 3DS and restart it. You MAY be able to
buy more time by setting your FILES= to a higher value in your config.sys, but
that's no solution.
I've seen this happen with ADI old drivers (like for the Targa Plus). I don't
have a cure for you except perhaps configure 3DS to not use the ADI and see if
the problem goes away. If it does contact the ADI author and ask them if
there's been a bug reported (and fixed.)

Thanks for the info, although I'm currently using the Vibrant drivers for the
Mach 64. Ive kind of suspected the files= number in my config.sys, but I didn't
think 3ds would be leaving files open as I was working. RAM is freed up after
each render.. hmmm I'm going to try to set FILES=100. but I sure would like to
know why the files are generating.
Try using just a Vesa (or Vga) driver for one session. Maybe it's the Vibrant
support for the Mach 64. I've heard it's slow on switching modes, perhaps that
indicates a greater problem.
Anyway, I'm sure not interested in a Mach 64 for my next purchase.
