I purchased the computer in 1991, it's a Compaq 486/33. I had it working with
the 64 megs at one time, and switched out some cards, and added new ones and
reformated things, I know this has something to do with it, but still it
should be able to work.

Have you moved SIMMS (memory chips) around ever? If you don't put
them in the right order, like it says in the MB manual (if you got
one), then the MB can miss all chips past a particular one. For
instance, if some simms are 70ns and some are 60, then you'd need to
switch some and get all of them the same speed. Or, if you've got
4meg simms and 1meg simms, then check your manual to see what order
they need to be in. Other than that, I'm stumped.

I was just responding to Kelley's problem with not being able to access more
than 8 megs RAM on her 64meg Compaq. We're all stumped, and I said it's time
to call Compaq and kick some butt <g>.

Have you (and I'm sure you have) checked the memory management! What
version of DOS, what memory manager, etc.

John T. is right on.. the way things are put in, etc. matters. Call Compaq.
They should be able to help you. That's one of the things you paid all those
$$'s for. 🙂
If you still can't get them to work, I'll take them 🙂

If I had it to do over again, I would advise the company I work for to
drop kick the Compaq out our 17th floor window!!! It's been the
biggest pain in the butt! I'd take my little no-name computer at
home over it any day!
Yeah, Compaq, IBM, etc. think they should do things their own way, and
sacrifice compatability. 🙁 I like my Micron. Good quality, and no problems.
