I've sent the POCO code for the particle system to you. Let me give you, and other forum users, a little background. I wrote the program to simulate galaxy collisions, as described on page 39 of the 12/73 issue of Scientific American: "Violent Tides between Galaxies." If you run the code, without changing the data, you will reproduce the main results described in the article about the origin of spiral galaxies. As described in the article: – all the mass is assumed to be at the center of the galaxies. – there is no collision checking – stars are only rendered around one galaxy (you can run the program twice to render stars around the second galaxy). I've used the program for more that just simulating galaxies, for example, to simulate the rings around Saturn. So, I decided to call the stars "particles." I'll look at a real particle system eventually to find out what they really do <g>. You must take a look at 1GA29.ZIP! It's over two meg zipped. Jonas may be able to show it to you. Otherwise, it's worth taking the time to download it. Trust me! Ed K

Thanks for sending the particle system poco stuff to me, Ed. I'll check it out tonight before I go to sleep! (I might also get an opportunty to at least dl 1GA29.ZIP tonight as well… 2MB, eh?) – G
